"I like it." My voice is uneven and bitter.

"Great! Oh and there's this party tonight. It's a bonfire actually, wanna come?" She asks me playing with the fringe on her crop top. Ava smacks her bubblegum and I cringe.

I will snatch that gum out of her mouth and put it in that perfect blonde hair of hers.

"Um, no. I don't feel like being bothered with the people here. I came here by force, not by choice." I sneer, feeling a sarcastic remark on the tip of my tongue.

"Okay. Well, I just thought that maybe since you're going to be here all summer -- until September that I might add -- you'd want to go around and meet people for a summer job or something or get some friends so you won't have to be stuck in this house with my mother and your father." She smiles and cocks her head to the side.

The party seems rather tempting. I bite my lip and I sigh. "Fine. I'll go."

Ava claps her hands together like a deranged seal. "Amazeballs! It starts at 8! We'll be leaving at 7:45, it's only down the road!" She skips out and I stand there puzzled.

Amaze-what?! I've never heard that term before and frankly, it's a stupid one. I sit on the edge of my bed, thinking about tonight. Ava is right. I do need to make friends so I can avoid questions about myself with Cindy and dad.

I had put on a pink tank top, mid-thigh length shorts, and pink flip flops. I jog down the stairs with my cell phone, towel, earbuds, and bag in tow. Ava is in the kitchen with her makeup and hair fully done and cute, but casual clothes.

She is walking around talking speedily into her phone. She notices me, smiles, and tells the person that she'll see them at the bonfire.

"Aren't you going to wear makeup?" Ava asks me.

"Um, no?" I say. "Do I have to?"

"No. Nevermind. Come on, let's get this show on the road!" She walks past me to grab her bag. "But put your hair down, you'll have plenty of time to have it in a ponytail!"

She walks behind me and takes the clip out of my hair. My shoulder length dark brown hair, tumbling onto my shoulders. Ava runs her fingers through my hair "fluffing it out" as she would say.

Ava then walks in front of me and beams. "Oh my God!" She squeals. "You look so hot!"

"Uh, okay thanks? Are we gonna leave now or what? It's just a matter of time before Cindy and my dad get back from the store."

Just as I say that the back door opens and I groan. Cindy comes in carrying one bag while my dad carries eight. She sets it down on the countertop. Cindy looks at her nails and I roll my eyes.

Malibu Barbie.

I'm not going to add wannabe to that because she's not a Malibu Barbie wannabe...she is a Malibu Barbie.

"Liv, your father and I need to talk to you. Do you mind hanging back?" Cindy asks me with a perfectly lipsticked smile.

"No. Ava and I are going to the bonfire." I say. I shoulder my bag and try to walk around my dad.

"Liv," he says warningly.

I check my phone and see that it's 7:30. Ava and I are supposed to leave in fifteen minutes. I look at Ava, who was already looking at me.

"It's okay," she says. "I'll wait outside for you. We have fifteen minutes anyways and if we're late well," she flipped her long blonde hair off her shoulder, "we'll make an appearance."
