"Oh for real? I knew those tinted windows were a great idea." I said which got her laughing and of course my ass started to laugh too. I agree with Breezy, laughter is the best medicine and I kind of wish he were here to get me laughing some more. Our laughter was interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing from her purse. She turned around and pulled out the phone, eyeing over it. "Who's calling you?"
"It's Sweets." I gave a nod and continued to watch as she slid her finger across the screen, bringing the phone up to her ear. "Hey Sweets." She began in her usual sweet soft tone. "I'm fine and Lexis has had better days, today looks like it'll be one of those much needed better days so that's a good thing." She motioned she was going to step out of the room and again I gave a nod. "Yes he's awake and you know it's a lot he's got going on but so far I haven't heard..." She trailed off as the door closed behind her and now I was left to myself.
Well the loneliness didn't last long as I watched the doorknob turn and in came Mom... who told her I was at this hospital?
"Mom?" I questioned as she walked in with the support of her cane and closed the door carefully. Her hair kept very short- almost like mine as it was all grey now but she looked adorable in her dress. Solid deep red and stopped just at her knees with a simple black jacket on top.
"I can't even remember the last time I saw you." She began as she reached down and kissed my forehead. Taking a seat in the chair and grabbing my hand. "I never thought the next time I did see you it would be while you were in the hospital for chemo."
"I agree it's been way too long and that's my fault. If Chewy made the efforts to come see you as often as he did there's no excuse for why I didn't do the same. You look good, Mom. I thought hair like that was too boyish for you." I teased which got her to crack a smile. Even the soft wrinkles on her face were adorable.
"You and Chewy are different people with different agendas and I know how busy you've been." She was quick to inform. "The hair was too boyish until I realized how easy it was to take care of." She paused for a minute and took a good long look at me through her glasses and withered eyes. "You look so much like your Dad and it's scary how similar you are to him. Only difference is you were smart to get this treated while you still could." The sadness clearly welling in the pit of her throat as she spoke.
"In my defense I have seven kids who still need me. Dad only had two who were too grown at a young age so I had to do something." I responded back which got another smile on her face. "But I was caught sooner than he was and this isn't easy. It's not like I just pop a pill and call it a day."
"I know it's not, that's why your Dad didn't bother with trying to treat it. Is Chanelle still here?" I nodded my head. "That's good you have her support. I thought she was leaving since I saw her out in the hall but have the kids come out to see you or no?"
"No. Not yet, DeShawn has his hands full with his newborn, Trey and Ty are welcome to come out and the younger two can only come out if Trey, Ty, Breezy or any of the others flys with them. I told them not to waste a trip." She listened intently.
"I need to fly out to Oakland to see my great grand daughter. I never thought I'd see the day. Are things okay between you and your kids? Chewy mentioned there was some tensions."
"The only tension is with Trey. It's just him and I because he wants IRG but I just don't feel like he's ready and he's pissed that Ivanna still has her say in her share." The only thing I like about chemo right now is not even the chemo itself... it's the fact I'm away from the issues of Trey and Ivanna with IRG. I know I'm eventually going to have to deal with it but for now I was happy not having to endure it. I don't want to have to wake up everyday with needing to decide who gets that damn empire. I don't like choosing among my kids and I don't want them being upset so getting away and not having to worry about that was nice.
