The ski trip was in three weeks and everyone was buzzing. Guys were plotting to ask girls and girls were praying that guys would ask them. It was sort of pathetic the lengths these people would go to just to find a date to a ski trip. I probably shouldn't say anything, because I was secretly hoping that Cody would ask me.

I turn to face Peter and sigh, scratching my head. He smiles at me from the bleacher, sending a wave my way. Soft-ball practice was ending and for some reason Peter was sitting at the benches next to Cody watching me. I was already anxious in front of Cody but to have two gorgeous men watching me? It was a lot.

After practice I run over to the bleachers where Cody handed me and Cecilia drinks. Cecilia runs over to the team to talk but I always stayed around Cody. I didn't have time to thank him because I was already downing the Gatorade.

"What are you doing here, Kavinsky?" I ask him, making Cody smile.

"I wanted to talk to you." He sneered at Cody behind his back.

I came to the realization that these two did not seem to like each other at all. I thought that they would click instantly since they were both in the same popularity clique. But they absolutely hated each other. Why did they sit together at lunch?

"Alright." I say, standing there.

Peter looks at Cody then back at me, gesturing me to make him leave with his eyes. I roll my eyes and turn to Cody, "I'll catch up with you, yeah?"

Cody nods and walks towards Cecilia. The only reason why I say that is because he takes me home so I would definitely have time to talk to him. I slump in the bleacher next to Peter. "What?"

He puts a hand over his heart, "This is the treatment I get? I thought we were close after last night."

"Don't speak of it." I warn, putting up a finger. I was bewildered when I woke up this morning at the memory of what happened last night.

He chuckles and grabs my finger, putting it back down. He begins to ask me about how he should ask Lara Jean out to the ski trip, but all the while I'm focused on his hand still holding my finger. Was he caressing my hand with his thumb or am I going insane?

"I was thinking I would just text her. Or maybe she already knows." He shrugs.

I roll my eyes and snatch my finger back. When he realized how long he'd been holding it his ears get red and he can't look me in the eyes. The small motion made me smile at the boy for a split second before going back to annoyed.

"You guys are fighting. Show her you want to go on this ski trip with her because you love her, not because she's your girlfriend. There's a big difference, you follow?" I ask, but I wasn't paying attention fully because I was staring at Cody.

He pauses before speaking and snaps in my face. I turn towards him with a jump. "What?"

"Who are you going with, O'Connor?" He asks suddenly, crossing his arms.

I shrug, playing with my thumbs. I could already sense the humiliation from a mile away. Peter would never let go of this one, would he? God, why did I agree to be his friend in the first place?

"Cody? Really? He's a dick." Peter insults, "You can do better."

I slap his shoulder. "Don't say that about him."

His eyes widened at the action. I should've never even opened my mouth. "You really like the kid?"

"I never said that." I retort, looking away.

Peter shook his head, "He's not a good guy. Don't talk to him."

"Why do you care?" I snap.

He didn't know shit about Cody. He doesn't know him like I do. He can't make snap judgements about people, he didn't have the right. Cody's an amazing guy, he has done nothing wrong. If anything, Peter's the bad guy.

"I don't." He says.

There's an awkward silence before I start up the conversation about Lara Jean so it wasn't weird. Even though I hated talking about the topic with Peter, it was too awkward. Peter shouldn't have asked in the first place, what's his deal? And why did he think Cody was a dick?

                                      ❀

"I think we're getting better." I tell Cecilia as Cody was driving us home.

She gets up from the back seat and pops her head in the middle of the two front seats. Cecilia was a sophomore, I considered her a little sister. She was amazing at soft-ball so she made the varsity team, meaning she's playing with me now.

"Are you dating Peter? Is that why him and Lara Jean are fighting?"

I freeze in my seat at the question. Is that what people think? Are we a little too close? I turn to her and laugh awkwardly, clearing my throat.

"No." Cody says with a deep voice.

I look up to him. He kept a stern face on as he stared at the road. His eyebrows were all scrunched together like he was angry. Was Cody jealous? Was I making Cody Rodriguez jealous? Holy shit.

"Uh, right. No." I nod my head, looking out the window.

If you knew how happy I was the rest of the day you'd think I was pathetic. But I don't care, right now all I care about is Cody.
