I went out to sit on the front porch, which was currently in the sun. I lounged on the swing and began rocking back and forth. I was soon lulled to sleep.
The sound of a closing car door was what eventually woke me up. I'd only been asleep for half an hour, but it made all the difference.
Marcus was making his way across the yard and had just mounted the stairs when I gestured for him to come sit next to me. He was carrying a brown paper sack, but sat it on the deck near his feet and sat on the swing.
“What's up?” he asked.
“Where on earth have you been?” I demanded.
“I had to go to the store for-” Marcus began.
“If you say cleaning supplies I'm going to smack you because I know damn well we have plenty in the upstairs closet,” I said to him. He looked down at his hands sheepishly.
“Alright, I wasn't shopping for cleaning supplies,” he admitted. “But I can't tell you what I did buy. It's a surprise,” he said.
“Marcus you know I hate surprises,” I said playfully. “Just tell me.”
He shook his head and stood, picking up the bag and then heading inside without one more word. So much for being a good friend.
I went inside and went into my study. To my surprise, Dean was sitting in my favorite armchair flipping lazily some of the papers I had sitting near it on the floor.
“Whatcha doing?” I asked him.
“Thinking,” he said slowly. “This is a good place to think.”
I chuckled. “Now you know why I spend so much time in here,” I told him. He nodded and just sat there.
“Look, I'm about halfway done with scanning all the papers into my computer. Give me one more day and I should be done. After that we've gotta take everything we're donating to it's respective places and then we can go. I don't want to cause any problems I just-”
I hadn't realized that through all of this, Dean had stood up. But I definitely noticed when he interrupted me by planting a strong and steady kiss on my lips.
My heart beat out of my chest and I could feel my legs turn to jelly beneath me. I'd been kissed before, lots of times, but never like that. I kissed him back like my life depended on it, one of my hands intertwining with his hair. When Dean finally broke the kiss, I pulled him back to me.
“Who said you could do that?” I mumbled against his lips. He chuckled slightly but kissed me back just as he had earlier.
I pushed him back against the chair and he plopped down in the seat. I sat on his lap, facing him, my legs on either side of him. The kiss deepened and he broke the kiss. But soon I felt his lips leave small kisses along my jaw. They made their way down my neck, then across my collarbone, and then down my chest. I groaned aloud.
I could hardly think straight, so when his lips returned to mine, my first instinct was to take off some of the layers confining Dean and I. My hands made my way to his back and I pulled off his jacket before discarding it on the floor next to the chair.
His hands drifted to my waist and pulled me closer so that I was pressed against him. His lips returned to mine and I kissed him as deeply as I’d ever kissed anyone.
There was a knock on the door and I nearly jumped out of my skin. I pulled away from Dean, trying to catch my breath. I groaned. Way to interrupt.
“Katherine?” Marcus asked from the other side of the door.
“Yeah?” I asked, my voice slightly shaky.
“Are you- are you alright?” Marcus asked.
“I’m fine, Marcus what’s up?” I asked.
“I ordered dinner out. Chicken wings. They’re here if you want some,” he informed me.
“Alright, be down in a second,” I told him.
I sighed heavily and let my forehead fall forward onto Dean’s. “Why the hell do we always get interrupted?” Dean growled.
“Your guess is as good as mine,” I replied. I kissed him one more time before standing and holding my hand out for him to grab it. He obliged and I pulled him up out of the chair before planting one last kiss on his cheek and crossing the room to go downstairs for dinner.
