The sun shone brightly through the train's windows. I had been up for a few hours, along with my dad and Jason. What time was it? I still didn't know. All I knew was that I wanted all of this to be over, and soon. Gracie was still fast asleep in her chair so, I quietly stood up and walked over to the train's door. I stepped out to see my dad and Jason talking to the Autobots.
"How fast can that thing get us halfway around the world?" I overheard my dad ask.
"Very. It's a spaceship," Drift responded confidently.
I sighed and walked over to a large oak tree. I leaned against it and crossed my arms over my chest. The sound of sirens in the distance caught my attention. Below us, a line of police cars were speeding towards us. I just stared at them as they continued driving.
How is it that my life got this way, this fast? A million questions rang through my head. Not even a week ago, I was back home in Texas studying for senior finals and now I'm here in the middle of some type of alien war. No home. No nothing. The sound of human and mechanical footsteps tore me away from my thoughts. I listened as Hound spoke, still watching the police cars advance up the hill.
"If you're travelin', now's the time," he said before walking away.
My dad softly spoke to me.
"All I want is for us to have our life back. Are we safer on our own or are we safer with them? It's up to you."
I answered his question with my thoughts. Of course we were safer with them, yet we were also in the most danger with them. I took one last glance at the line of vehicles before turning around. I made my way past Jason and my dad and back to the ship where the Autobots and Gracie were now gathered.
"Autobots, we're retrieving the seed and then we're done defending the humans," Optimus remarked.
I just sighed again and made my way up the ship's ramp, Bumblebee and Gracie quickly running ahead of me.
"What do you mean you're done?" I heard my dad shoot back.
If there was a response, I hadn't heard it. I was already sitting inside the ship, Bumblebee and Gracie sat across from me. Optimus, my dad, Jason, Hound, Drift, and Crosshairs quickly rushed onto the ship. As the ship's entry ramp closed, we took off. I leaned my head back against the wall and looked over to see Bumblebee staring at me. I gave him a questioning look and he shook his head.
"What'd I tell you-little lady?" he asked me.
Gazing around the ship, I saw no one was paying attention to our little ordeal except Gracie, who looked on in curiosity. I brought my attention back towards Bumblebee.
"I'm sorry, Bee. I'm trying. Trust me, I am. It's just still so much to take in," I told him looking down at my hands in my lap.
"What are you two talking about?" Gracie asked.
"I made a promise to Bee that I would stay strong throughout all of this. He told me that I was courageous and brave and I promised him that I would continue to be and he promised me that he would never let anything happen to me. So far, he's lived up to his word, I on the other hand am struggling very hard to," I said softly.
"But it can't be that hard, Rose. Bee wasn't lying. You're one of the bravest and strongest people I know. You lost your mom at age seventeen and left everything and everyone that you knew behind, all within a month's time. You've even stepped up to take care of your family, Rose. That's hard to do, especially for a teenager who hasn't even finished school yet, and you know good and well you've never broken a promise, so if you break one of the most important ones that you've made in a while, I might have to kill you if he doesn't do it first," she said and laughed gesturing to Bee in the corner who was watching us.
