Chapter 14 - Truth

My heart seemed to be trying to escape from the prison of my chest. It was getting harder and harder to breathe. I was anxious about what I was about to do. Standing beside me, Bahar sighed exasperatedly.

"Debi, are you ever going to knock on that door? Your had has been hovering there for almost 5 minutes. Are you going to do this or not?"

I could feel my heartbeat in my head.

"Yeah, no. I'm not doing this." I started to back away from the door but Bahar stopped me.

"Deborah, you need to do this. Just knock already!" Bahar pushed me forward as she said this. But, she pushed me so hard that I crashed into the wooden apartment door and I could hear my crash echoing throughout the rooms inside. That and four other sounds.

Ten screaming like a teenage girl

Johnny laughing at him

Taeyong saying; "Did someone just die out there?!"

And, footsteps. Footsteps that were coming closer.

"Bahar no, I can't." I pushed past her and started to run down the flight of stairs. As I heard the door being unlocked and opened, I ran faster.

"Hi." I heard Bahar's voice but by this time I couldn't see her.

Or the person at the door

"Um, did you just pound on our door?" The very familiar voice sounded extremely confused.

"Deborah's just down there." Bahar motioned to the staircase.

"BAHAR WHY"

"Deborah..?" Mark was leaning over the balcony looking down at me, still confused. I looked up but continued running.

"Uh..hi." I knew I sounded awkward. What I didn't know, however, was that my shoelace was untied.

My feet slipped out from under me

As I fell, I saw Mark still staring down at me.

I landed with a thud on the hard linoleum stairs. I could feel my face turning as red as a cherry bomb and I could hear both Mark and Bahar laughing at my fall from the balcony above.

"oh my gosh..." I hid my face in my hands as I realized that the guy I liked and the girl who would never stop teasing me had just witnessed me falling down the stairs.

Mark continued to laugh softly as he began to walk down the stair to where I was still sitting.

his laugh is like honey

"Are you okay?" Mark looked genuinely worried but he was still laughing softly.

"I'm fine. Or I will be if I ever get over the embarrassment." I was still hiding my face with my hands and my voice came out muffled.

Mark laughed again.

"I'm just gonna leave you two alone." Bahar slid past us and out of the front door and towards our apartment. Mark turned and looked at me.

"Why are you here?" He gave me a questioning glance.

"Well, I kinda needed to tell you something." Mark's face twisted into dozens of emotions before he looked down and asked,

"Wh-What is it?"

"Um..okay. Well, this is kinda hard for me to say but...nevermind. this is stupid." I tried to push past him but he grabbed my shoulders.
