"Not all heroes wear capes. Not all heroes can stand the darkness. Not all heroes are meant to protect the light. Not all heroes want to be one."
To a young Nicole Gupta, heroes were everything. She loved Iron Man; she even had a mini figurine of him in her room. And the best thing was her older sister worked in the same company as Tony Stark, although she had never really seen him. Her parents had great jobs too; even though they were lawyers and remained busy, they still made time for her and that made her happy. But then, as it was said, happiness never lasted.
Disaster struck when Nicole's parents were taken from her in the alien invasion of New York and the so-called heroes, the Avengers, weren't able to save them. She didn't blame them; she knew the heroes had too much on their plate. But the grief and the anger was still there; she didn't know how to cope. Her sister saw the pain and understood it because she felt the same thing. So both of them went to a therapist. They learned to cope.
One of the methods Nicole learnt was writing. The therapist told her it would help get her thoughts straight and clear her mind. And so, she decided to start a blog. At first, it was nothing much. 'In the Defense of Heroes' just contained simple posts about why heroes were not to be blamed but soon it took off. People started commenting on it, sharing their own experiences and actually agreeing with her. And as the years passed, her blog became her own little corner of the internet; her way of coping with the pain and letting out the reservoir of her feelings. She wrote about heroes; she wrote about her love for Iron Man. But most of all, she wrote about the importance of heroes. Sure they caused a lot of destruction, but in the end they saved people and that's all that matter. She also wrote about the new hero, the mask-wearing vigilante called Spider-Man.
But then, one day, as Nicole is in her room, she undergoes a sudden change. A strange fog was floating around Queens and she accidentally inhaled it. This gave her abilities; to manipulate the wind, to fly. But she didn't want these. She didn't want to be a hero. She couldn't be a hero. But the powers became a part of her.
Being a hero wasn't an easy job and Nicole still had a long way to go before she became one
