"Fight Club is overrated."
"Fuck you, O'Conner! That's my favorite movie." Peter laughs through the laptop.
"That explains a whole lot."
It was the day after he suggested we talk more. After school he face-timed me and we've been talking ever since. It was now seven o'clock, meaning we've been talking for over four hours.
My step-dad yells from downstairs, "Someone is here for you!"
"Send them up!" I yell back.
I jump back on to my chair in front of the laptop where Peter's face is. He's texting someone on his phone. I already knew who it was. Why was I getting angry? Lara Jean is his girlfriend, he has every right to text his girlfriend. Just not in front of me.
"You just need to watch it in the right mindset. Put it on. Now." He demands, pointing to my TV set on the wall.
"There is no way I'm watching that shitty movie."
He puts a hand over his chest and shakes his head, disappointed. Suddenly, the door opens. I look over to who it was and almost immediately forgot that I was talking to Peter. "Cody, hey."
"Cody?" I hear Peter's voice from the laptop.
Cody looks over to my laptop but I hang up on Peter before he could see. He brushes it off but is still confused about who it was. "I was around the neighborhood so I decided to drop by. I hope I'm not interrupting you."
I shake my head feverishly, making him laugh. He hops onto my bed and grabs the remote control to my television. Rolling my eyes, I sit next to him. "Your mom didn't pay the cable bill?"
"Nope." He confesses.
He puts on The Office and we lay there for quite some time. He was watching the television while I was watching him. His smile was so beautiful that it made me angry.
My mom calls me down for dinner, and Cody doesn't say goodbye so I was guessing he was staying. We had chicken and rice with mash potatoes and beans– Cody's favorite. My parents were such suck-ups. They loved Cody, they never stopped asking me when we were going to date.
It was quite embarrassing, but even more so knowing that I had a major crush on him. He enjoyed dinner while my parents asked him questions about school and life. His mom was a single, working mother so she was always busy. He would come to our house as a kid all the time. He didn't do it so much anymore.
"You don't have to help." I say to Cody after dinner. He was washing the dishes and I was drying them.
"I want to. I like it here. I like hanging out with you, Dyl."
The rest of the night I was beaming, even after Cody left. I was so happy that I completely forgot that I totally blew Peter off. But it was alright, he had Lara Jean to keep him company.
It was now nine o'clock. I couldn't sleep but my parents were already knocked out. My phone eventually got boring and I had no interest in reading books. This was a nightly problem I dealt with. My body just doesn't know when to shut down.
That's when I heard a knock at my window. I turned around and saw a head pop up. Flying backwards in my bed, I grab the television remote as a weapon. Slowly, I make my way towards the window. When I open it, I immediately attack.
"Whoa, whoa, holy shit!"
I drop the remote on the rug when I see who is sitting at my windowsill.
"Peter?"
