I entered my bedroom and closed my door, gently sitting on my bed. I take a few deep breaths and exhale long and steady.
This is temporary, I won't feel like this forever, and I know that there's still work to be done, but can I do it? Is there any way that I can make it through this? I asked myself. I gently put my head in my hands and gripped my hair tightly. I have a headache that's lasted a few days now, and I was trying to find what the problem was. It wasn't sleep deprivation, I'd slept a full 8 hours each night. It wasn't dehydration, and it wasn't hunger, so what can it be? I laid down and seriously thought about something that a friend said to me.
"If you finally decide you want to try it, just say the words " Well, I was ready to try. I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and looked at it for a few minutes. I finally hit the button and held it up to my ear.
"Hey, Mira, remember how you said if I ever wanted to try it? Well, I've had a headache for a few days now, and I'm ready. You're with Chrissy and Ben? Okay, yeah I can pick you up. Okay, great, I'll see you in a few, bye." I pressed end call and laid back for a few more seconds.
Well, here goes nothing. I thought. I slid my bag off and grabbed my wallet and keys from it.
"Hey Dad, I'm gonna go hang out with Mira for a bit, I've got my phone if you need me!" I said, waving to my dad.
"Will you be home for supper?" He asked me, looking up from his game.
"Probably not, I think we're going to go out." I said to him.
"Okay, I'll see you by 10 then." He said. I waved and left, getting into my Jeep. I started it up and backed out, shifting into drive as I began. I drove to Mira's house across town and put my car in park. I beeped my horn twice, both short bursts so as not to be rude. Mira came out with our friend Chrissy, with Ben following along behind them. I waved and took a drink from my fountain pop, setting it back in it's cup holder. I started playing a bop as soon as they got in the car, putting it into drive and taking off.
"So, where are we going to go and do this?" Mira asked. I shrugged and tried to think of somewhere.
"Eh, let's go park somewhere out of town." I said, switching lanes. I began accelerating and soon was going 60 down the highway. I saw a little gravel road and began tapping my brakes, slowing down and making the turn. I turned and drove for a while, eventually just choosing somewhere in the middle of nowhere. We stopped and I looked around.
"Let's just do it here." I said. "We're in my car at the top of a hill, we'll just open the windows."
"Alright, here we go." Mira said, pulling out a pipe and a small bag. I gulped and watched her open the bag, and a dank smell hit me.
"Oh God, what's that smell?" I asked. Mira smiled and shook her head.
"That my friend, is the smell of some dank ass shit." She said, finishing her task. She handed the pipe to me with a lighter.
"Now, smoke that fucking weed dude." I looked nervously at the pipe and then her, then I brought it up to my lips and lit it, inhaling a bunch. I took it away and started coughing almost immediately. Mira grabbed the pipe from me and I almost spilled my drink grabbing at it. I finally succeeded and took a long swig, thanking myself for getting a sugar laden brown pop.
"Welcome to the world of a stoner."
