Walking across the deserted street, the girl huddled inside her jacket trying to create a wall between herself and the darkness that wrapped around her. Her boots crunched on the newly fallen snow, and at every sound she jumped, panicked eyes darting everywhere to make sure no one was following. Suddenly, a gust of cold wind blew off her hoodie sending her loose hair flying everywhere.

"What is a girl like you doing out in a night like this?" a voice said from behind her in a hiss. Startled, she turns around to find herself facing a young man. If you could call him that. With charcoal eyes, blood red lips and pale waxy skin he seemed inhuman. As he stalked towards her, the girl looked down to find that he made no footprints, no sound.

Slowly backing away from him, she saw a malicious grin come across his face, his long sharp teeth protruding. "Now, don't be afraid darling, I only came to take back what was mine."

Bursting into a run, the girl through the maze of the neighborhood, only listening to the sound of the river that was hidden in the trees. Panting, she could see her breath lingering in the air as she ran in the dim moonlight and could hear the sound of harsh laughter behind her.

"Do you really think you can outrun me little girl? If so you are sorely mistaken." Looking back, the girl sees the unearthly creature burst into a run after her. She was close, so close to the river, to her escape, she could already see it. Tripping, the girl slips on the snow, it had grown so cold that the edges of the river had already frozen to ice. The boy skids to a halt a few feet in front of her.

"Give it back to me darling" he snarls. He wasn't even panting, in fact the usual rise and fall of his chest wasn't there.

The girl starts mulling over several solutions, feigning innocence as to buy her time. "I don't know what you're talking about, I didn't take anything from you." She can see that she is only a few feet away from the river's edge. Scooting back on the slippery ice, she feels her fingers grow numb from being in the cold for so long.

"Yes, you do, now give it and I'll let you go." He slowly moved towards her. "You know better than to be out in a full moon. You don't have power, I do."

Glancing up at the round ball floating in the sky, it seemed as if the moon was leering down at her. She looks back towards the river. Just a few more inches, and then you're free. Scooting back one more time, she pretends to cower against the advancing creature.

"No you won't demon," she breathes out, terror lacing the words. As if he just realized how close she was to the water's edge, he lunges forward just as she throws herself into the river. Gasping the girl resurfaces a few feet away, already being carried downstream.

Looking back, she sees the rage coating his perfect face. "You will give it to me or else you will truly learn what you have done to your world!" he screams after her.

Sure I will, she thinks to herself. She feels the cold slowly creep into her body and the last thing she sees is the moon glaring down at her before she passes out.
