When lunch time came around, Amelia walked in late, having had to run to Bella's car to grab her painting.
With a skip she moved straight past her usual table, ignoring Angela's wave. She felt their eyes follow her as she made her way to the table filled with social pariahs.
"Hi guys," she said with a wave, her one hand clutching the painting was behind her back. "Hi, Jasper!"
The blonde didn't look up and Amelia frowned. Henry grinned, "You'll have to forgive Jasper, he's...feeling a bit ill."
"Oh no! I hope he is well enough for music, we're working as partners today." Henry grin widened as he nudged Jasper with an elbow. Hard.
"Oh I think he'll be fine by then." He got up and pulled a chair over from and empty table and put it next to Jasper. "Why don't you sit down next to him. Since you two are buddies and all." He had a devious smirk on his face, which Amelia failed to notice.
"Your friends are staring at us," Edward said, a faint hint of amusement in his voice.
"I think they are definitely staring at me," Emmett said, placing his hands behind his head. "I don't blame them."
Amelia giggled at Emmett before turning to Edward, "I would say they are more Bella's friends than mine." She glanced over at Bella and saw he sister glare at her in warning, knowing where her sister was about to go. "Speaking of Bella, she speaks very highly of you."
Henry let out a guffaw, "Highly? Of him?"
Amelia nodded, before placing her painting on the table. "I just remembered, I haven't given this to you yet." She slid it across the table to Rosalie and Emmett face down.
Rosalie stared at it skeptically, before flipping it over, her eyes going wide, "You... made this?"
Amelia nodded sheepishly, "Do you like it? Bella thought it was creepy but I thought you guys were too pretty and cute together not to make art of you."
"I look good," muttered Emmett, earning a glare from Rosalie, "You do too of course! You always look fantastic," he quickly added.
"Thank you," said Rosalie in a small voice, a rare smile gracing her face.
"You're welcome!" Amelia said, but quickly switched the topic. "So, what did you want to talk about?"
The Cullen kids shared glances, as if trying to figure out who wanted to talk first.
"Amelia, do you know what we are?" Alice asked, a soft look on her face.
Amelia thought for a moment, "Uh, teenagers? There are a lot of possible answers."
"No, we are vampires."
"Way to rip the bandaid off," muttered Rosalie, picking up and apple and tossing it in the air and catching it. She switched her gaze to Amelia, "You don't seem that surprised."
Amelia shrugged, "Well, I knew Edward could read minds, so I just went through every possibility of what you guys were."
Rosalie nodded, sitting back in her chair.
"So do you all have powers?"
"No, uh, just me, Alice, and Jasper." Edward leaned forward, looking Amelia in the eyes, "And we think you do as well."
Amelia's eyes widened, "Me? I'm not a vampire."
"You don't have to be," Alice cut in. "When I was a human I could see the future sometimes, it only enhanced when I was turned."
Amelia's eyes lit up, "You can see the future? That's so cool!"
Alice smiled, nodding her head towards Jasper, "He can sense and change emotions."
Amelia looked at Jasper, who was already staring at her, "That's so cool!" She gushed, smiling widely at him. He smiled weakly at her before looking down. "So what is it you think I can do?"
Edward exchanged a look with Alice before clasping his hands infront of him, "Amelia, what happens when you go to sleep?"
"I go places, usually Neverland. That's where I got the scars on my back from."
"Carlisle, our dad, thinks you can sort of make realities, or at least little safe havens for you. At first he assumed you were just having normal dreams, but your marks matched what happened in your dream."
Amelia nodded, "So, if I make these worlds, what happens when I'm not asleep?"
Edward shook his head, "We don't know, that something you'll have to figure out."
Amelia nodded once more, mulling things over, "So, if your powers enhanced when you were turned," she pointed at Alice, "What would happen to me?"
Edward grit his teeth, hesitation reflected on his face, "We don't know for sure, but we think that you could actually live in these realities, not having to sleep."
"That's if she became a vampire." Growled Jasper, "Which she won't."
Amelia frowned at him, hurt. Did he really dislike her that much?
"Jasper, you don't know what might happen," Alice tried, but he shook his head, standing up quickly, and sped out of the lunchroom.
"That went well," said Henry, a grimace on his face.
"What did I do to upset him?" Amelia asked in a small voice. She knew that many didn't like her, but most had the decency to at least pretend they did.
"You didn't do anything, Jasper is just tense around humans," Alice assured her.
Emmett tried to boost her confidence, "You know, you are taking this surprisingly well."
Amelia glanced at him, "Well, I do go to Neverland every night, this isn't the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me."
"What's the weirdest?" Asked Emmett, intrigued.
Amelia thought for a moment before grinning, "Well one time, when I was flying with Peter, we-"
"You can fly?!" Emmett asked, a little to loudly.
A few tables around them stared and he shrunk in his seat.
Amelia frowned and asked genuinely, "You can't?"
Emmett opened his mouth to reply but was cut off by the cafeteria bell.
"Here," Alice handed Amelia a slip of paper as her siblings got up, "this is my number. I can already tell we are going to be great friends!" She pulled Amelia into a hug, catching the blonde off guard. She wrapped an arm around Henry's waist after releasing her.
"Have fun with Jasper next period," he said with a smirk.
