Sighing, I ran my hands over my head. It was the morning after finding out this horrible news and I haven't been to sleep at all. I've just been looking after Carlee. She just cried and cried until she eventually fell asleep, then she woke up the middle of the night and cried more until she fell asleep again. I just held her tight.
I called Junior over this morning and told him to bring his brother and sister with him. He automatically assumed something was wrong. This is going to hurt them so bad man, especially Junior. He was always attached to his grandfathers hip, now he's gone.
The door bell rang. I exhaled climbing off the couch then went and opened the door. "Good morning." I said while letting them in.
"Dang dad, I thought you wanted us over here early for a family breakfast or something." Carter said. "I don't smell nothing cooking."
"There's food in the kitchen, help yourself."
"Hey dad." Kylee wrapped her arms around me.
"Hey princess." I held her tight then kissed her forehead. "How are you?"
"That's good, everybody can go in the kitchen and get them something to eat."
We all walked into the kitchen. I still held onto Kylee.
"Anybody talk to mom?" Junior asked.
"She's upstairs." I said scratching my growing beard. "She's sleeping."
"Oooooh, Okay." Carter said smiling then winking.
I squinted my eyes at him. "It's not even like that boy!"
"Dad you ain't gotta lie to us, we grown. If you and mommy just on some sex buddies stuff it's cool. Y'all used to each other, I get it." Junior said, Carter hit his arm laughing.
They're spirits are so high, I hate that I gotta tell them this. "Your mom stayed here for a serious reason."
"And what's that?"
I sighed then leaned on the counter. "We got a call last night from Claire."
"Why?" Kylee asked.
"Chris." Carlee came into the kitchen, cutting me off. Her eyes were red, along with her nose and more tears ran down her cheeks.
"Yo what's going on?" Carter asked pushing his bowl to the side.
"Uuuum, Claire called last night about your grandfather." I said. "He uh." My voice cracked. "He died last night."
I quickly looked at all three of them. Junior face turned red, Carter looked at me like he didn't understand what I said, and Kylee was crying.
"Dad stop lying." Junior said.
"I wish I was."
"Naw man." His head quickly shook. "You lying, I know you are."
"Christopher he's not lying, he's really gone." Carlee said.
