A/N: Way longer chapter than I have ever written for this story. Why? Because it's the last chapter of this book before the epilogue. I must make it long!
"You deserved happiness. So, I left."
The next morning, I had woken up without a body lying and sleeping soundly next to me. I sat up and stretched my muscles, hearing a series of pops coming from my stiffened joints.
I yawned before I stood up and searched the few rooms for my missing boyfriend.
He was nowhere to be found. I tried to look for a note and came across one that was hanging against the refrigerator door in the small kitchen.
At class. Didn't want to wake you. XOXO.
I smiled and placed the fragile piece of paper gently on the counter. I didn't want to throw it away. It made feel too special to get rid of it.
I looked at the time, finally having it dawn on me that he was in class. I had slept in until the mid-afternoon.
It had been years since I had done that. That made me happier. Everything felt like it was starting to fall into place.
Until the doorbell rang.
I blinked my half-opened eyes to the white front door and I lazily made my way to open it. My eyes widened when my eyes met the stare of two police officers in uniforms.
I swallowed hard, and suddenly at a loss for words.
The only thing I could think of was Jordan was back and had been arrested or somebody that I knew had passed away from an accident. I didn't know which one scared me the most.
"Excuse me, ma'am. Is a Mr. Kim Taehyung present?" one officer asked.
His stare was cold and determined, something I didn't like to look at. Both of their faces were scrawny, along with their body shape in their uniforms.
They looked nothing like stereotypical policemen who would always eat donuts and drink coffee during the day.
One was a lot taller than the other with very broad shoulders, while the other one was just tinier of every part of his body.
"No, he's not at the moment," I answered slowly, my eyes darting from one man to the other.
"I'm officer Kim and this here is my partner, officer Min. We have a couple of questions we would like to ask you," the taller officer said.
I nodded but refused to move away from the door. I wasn't going to invite them in until I knew what the problem was.
"Do you know a man named Jordan Miller?" the smaller one chimed in.
His eyes squinted at me, and his facial features were more of a feline than his partner. His brown eyes seemed to burn right through me with intimidation.
I felt like if I had made one wrong move, he was going to arrest me.
I nodded hesitantly, "Yes. He's my ex-boyfriend. What exactly is this about?"
Officer Kim sighed, "We have reason to believe that a body that was found in a burned vehicle not so long ago belongs to him."
I stood there in complete shock.
I shook my head in response and I felt my heart rate accelerate, as if it was in a marathon race for its life.
