Orphriend and Oracle

O & O Prologue

A lioness and a puma slink through the undergrowth, sneaking up on a house right outside the woods.

Looking through the window, they see what they've been searching for for a long time.

The girl has auburn hair and deep blue eyes. Alliynthroe Masen, known by most as Alli, is dangerous. She and her pet puma, Oniyx, make a deadly team. Yet she has no idea that she as well as Oniyx could shape-shift from human to animal and back.

The lioness and puma, Sahara and Midnight, are there to train them. Shifting into human form, they casually walk up to the window of Alliynthroe's bedroom. Sahara raps lightly on the glass, and Oniyx jumps up from his resting spot at the end of the bed, landing in a fighting stance, snarling. Alliynthroe sits straight up in bed, her eyes completely open and looking like they're sparking. Which they probably are, but she doesn't know that. Midnight backs up, but Sahara calmly motions for Alliynthroe to open the window.

Alliynthroe gets up slowly out of bed, making Sahara roll her eyes in impatience. Alliynthroe opens the window cautiously, and Sahara smiles briefly in greeting. Alliynthroe looks, confused, from one armored person to the other. Then Sahara speaks.

"Hello Alliynthroe. My name is Sahara, and this is Midnight. You don't know it, but you have special powers that deal with the 5 elements."

"Wow, way to draw our suspicion, Sahara. 😒" Midnight says. Sahara gives him a glare that shuts him up instantly.

"5 elements? I thought there were only 4?" Alliynthroe asks.

"The fifth element is metal. Technically saying that you have the power to control earth, air, water, fire, and all metal. Oniyx has the power to shift into a human when he wishes, as do you have the power to shift into a lioness when you please

Since you have the power to control the elements, all of them, this makes you the Orphriend. Oniyx has the power to look into someones mind and view the past, present, and predict their future, as well as control time. He is the Oracle."

"What's an Orphriend?" Alliynthroe asks, a confused look on her face."

"An Orphriend is a person who can control all of the elements. But only with practice. Didn't I just explain this?" Sahara says, turning to Midnight. Midnight just shrugged. Sahara turned back, waving at him dismissively. "Anyway, that is what Im here to train you for. Midnight is going to train Oniyx. We are the current Orphriend and Oracle, but when we pass, you two are going to be the new Orphriend and Oracle. But no one can be the Orphriend and Oracle without training. So we are here to train you."

"Wow! Thats so cool! Can i fly? Can i sprout wings? Can i throw rocks and stuff really far?" Alliynthroe exclaims rapidly.

"Quiet, apprentice." Sahara commands. But Alliynthroe ignores her and keeps talking, caught up in her excitement.

Alliynthroe gasped. "Am i like Superman?" she breathes, stars practically lighting her eyes.

Bonk! Sahara hits Alliynthroe and exclaims, "No. You are NOT like Superman. Who IS Superman anyway?" Sahara says, again turning to question Midnight.

"Hero with incredibly unreal powers, used to show kids and teens in the world that feel down on themselves that they can be great no matter how weird they are. Basically, read about him, you gain self-confidence. Nowadays, kids just think he's cool and want to kick butt as well as he does." Midnight explains.

Sahara just gives him a look that says, "How do you know all of this?" Midnight shrugs at her. "No big deal. Its common knowledge."

Translation: It's common knowledge you should know. You ARE the Orphriend.

Sahara rolls her eyes at him, then turns back to Alliynthroe and Oniyx. "Now listen carefully. Pay attention to me and Midnight, and maybe you'll live to see the new dawn." Sahara says, looking coldly at the horizon, where dawn's first light is appearing.
