Chapter Nine

Sammy didn't speak much for the rest of drama class. Wren and Duncan tried their best to get him to tell them what happened between him and Miss Drake but he refused each time. Next they went to English and worked on their Beowolf reports.

"So, I've been informed that there's a certain event occurs on Thursday that will keep me from teaching so the reports will be due Friday instead." Mr. Ray announced to the class and a few people were happy but a few were annoyed.

"What exactly is happening on Thursday?" Duncan whispers to Wren.

"I don't think anything huge is happening. I know there's going to be a full moon but I don't think that has anything to do with Mr. Ray." Wren says

"I don't think he'd miss class just because of a full moon." Duncan says and the two continue working on their report.

When the trio went to health class, their last class for the the day, Sammy finally started becoming more talkative but he still refused to talk about Miss Drake. The three took their seats just as Mrs. Kendall began talking about CPR.

"Here's a little fun fact about drowning that most people don't know," Mrs. Kendall began. "When someone is drowning no matter how hard they try, they can't breath in until right before they black out. No matter how much you're freaking out, the instinct to not let any water in is so strong that you won't let any water in until you feel as if your head is exploding. This is called voluntary apnea. So, next time you watch a scary movie where someone is drowning and they breath in you know that it's fake."

"People in movies are stupid. If someone was trying to drown me I'd just pretend to struggle for awhile then pretend to black out and whenever the person leaves you, you're still alive but that person doesn't know that." Sammy says to Mrs. Kendall.

"That is smart Mr. Frost, but people don't necessarily think about that stuff when they're about to die." Mrs. Kendall says.

"Why not? If I was about to die I'd think about all the ways I could escape while still breathing." Sammy says

"People usually think about their family and loved ones during these events." Mrs. Kendall says

"What if they have no family?" Sammy asks and starts to fiddle with his fingers.

"I don't know Mr. Frost." Mrs. Kendall says and continues with her lessons.
