"Our trail stops at Russia" one of the men said.

This was the debrief of the investigation on the attack on Max Roma had kickstarted.

"Most men and weapons came from Russia" He added.

"Anyone we can tie to a particular pack, group or affiliation?" Adrian asked.

"No sir, they are clean, we could not pull any details from the prints from the bodies and all their documents seem to lead to a dead end." He responded.

Everyone waited while Roma sat contemplating.

"What about Charles?" she asked breaking the silence.

"We have issues a manhunt for him in America, all alphas are co-operating with us" The lead for the investigation assured.

"What's the next steps then?" she asked.

"We want to work with the Russian pack to see if they can shed some light on the men and weapons" He told her.

"ok, Adrian will co-ordinate the effort" Roma said and dismissed the men. They walked out of the room.

The room was just left with Adrian and Roma.

"What do you think?" Roma asked Adrian.

"It's worrisome" He said.

"Why?" She asked.

"If the weapons came from Russia...did the support for them come too?" He pondered out loud.

Crazy Ivan as they fondly called the alpha of the Russian pack was a crazy asshole but a dangerous asshole. If he had a hand in the attach they had bigger problems.

"Or someone is setting us up to ensure we blame the wrong folks." She contemplated. If they went to fight with Russia they would not come out unscratched.

"How do we know?" Adrian clasped his hands wondering.

"We don't" Roma said and she was thinking, the wheels in her head spinning.

"But we need to, real soon" She added.

"How?" Adrian pondered.

Roma thought about it for a moment "We need to set up a bait, which will tell us which side Ivan is playing on."

"I thought he was on our side" Adrian added, did he not offer co-operation to Roma in the past?

"Remember Adrian, the only people who are on our side" Roma said looking in to Adrian's eyes "are us" She learned it the hard way.

They slipped in to silence again, both in deep thought.

"By the way" Adrian interrupted "We are getting pressured to put the world counsel in session, to clear the bad air and discuss the way forward and other yawn worthy stuff..."

"I am not stepping out of Roma" She insisted, her tone left no room for argument.

"They obliged to a session in Roma, considering the extraordinary scenario." Adrian informed.

Roma raised her eyebrow in surprise.

Adrian shrugged in response.

"Why are they so accommodative all of sudden?" She asked.

"Your guess is as good as mine." Adrian added.

"We are missing something Adrian" Roma said out loud, voicing her thoughts out "Where is Charles? He is not going to give up, what's his connection with the assassination attempt on Max? Where does Russia figure out in all this? What do we really know about Ivan and his ambitions? What about the world council, what are their motivations?" She rambled out her thoughts.
