"Hello?" sagot ko sa tawag ni Brendt nang makalayo na ako kay Sean.
Hirap pa ako sa pagsasalita dahil sa parang batong nakabara sa aking lalamunan mula sa pag-uusap namin ni Sean.
"Did I wake you up?" he carefully asked. "Your voice sounds different."
And of course... mapupuna ni Brendt ang kahit kaunting pagbabago sa aking boses. For the last five years that I've spent with him, hindi malabong alam na ni Brendt at kabisado na niya ang mga ganoong bagay patungkol sa akin.
"Uh yeah... I woke up because of your call." I lied.
"Oh... I'm sorry." he apologized. "I just called because I told you ealier na may pag-uusapan tayong dalawa."
"No worries." sabi ko naman. "I forgot about that. Napagod kasi ako ngayon." pagdadahilan ko nalang.
"Well, I just want to tell you that I decided to agree with your suggestion." he said and I became more attentive. "We're going to live in Manila. Pagkabalik ko diyan pagkatapos kong gawin ang mga kailangan kong gawin dito sa Davao, I want our family to stay under my house."
I want Lyrae to spend more time with Sean dahil hindi pa naman ganoon kalakas ang relasyon ng mag-ama. They need more time.
"Brendt... I was thinking na kung gusto nating mas makapag-adjust si Rae ay dito muna siya kay Sean tumira pansamantala—"
"You know that I won't let that happen, Sandra." he immediately cut me off.
"Brendt, I want Lyrae to build a stronger relationship with Sean at hindi mangyayari yun kung hindi natin siya bibigyan ng mas mahabang time na makasama si Sean. I want her to adjust living here in Manila with Sean para maisip niyang parte na ng buhay na sisimulan niya rito si Sean." I tried to make him understand my reasons.
"Hindi ko naman siya pagbabawalan na hindi makita si Sean. All I want is you two under my roof. Pamilya ko kayong dalawa ni Lyrae and I want my family to be always by my side." he reasoned out. "I want us three to be the same like how we were for the past years that we're in Davao."
"But Sean's also a part of Lyrae's family..." halos hindi na marinig ang aking boses ngunit alam kong naintindihan niya 'yon. "We can't erase the fact that Sean is Lyrae's father."
"Like what I said earlier, Sands... Hindi ko nga pagbabawalan si Lyrae na makipag-usap at makipagkita kay Sean. Naiintindihan ko na nga." he insisted his thoughts. "And please, Sands, don't push Lyrae if she doesn't want to be with Sean."
"Brendt, they're getting closer and closer each day. I'm not pushing her. Kusa na siyang lumalapit kay Sean." sabi ko. "Aren't you happy that your daughter's finally accepting the reality of her true self?"
"I'm happy, Sandra. I'm happy for her but I'm also scared. Not just scared, but terrified." giit niya. "I don't want to lose you and Lyrae. I hope you understand that."
"Can't you please just trust us?" hindi ko na maiwasan ang pagtaas ng aking boses. "Napag-usapan na natin 'to bago ka umalis. I told you na gusto ko ng magkasundo ang mag-ama. I expected that you'll understand and give me your trust."
"I trust you, Sandra! I trust you so please don't break my trust..." he said, almost pleading. "I don't want to lose you both, specially you."
