I heard the screams he tried to mask. I saw the bruises, an ugly shade of purple and blue combined on his broken skin. I saw the tears he only cried in solitude.
I saw the broken boy known as Tobias.
Our father had beat us relentlessly for the past decade. We didn't know why.
Eventually, Tobias' day came for him to choose his faction. Naturally, he wanted to leave our horrible father and he did. He transferred to Dauntless, the faction I hope to go into when my choice is allowed to be made. But until then, I will bear the brunt of our father's horrible words and horrible actions.
I wanted to be Dauntless not only for my brother but also as I valued bravery. I was always steered towards selflessness by my faction but in my heart, I always told myself to be brave.
