"Which is the true nightmare,
the horrific dream that you have in your sleep
or the dissatisfied reality
that awaits you when you awake?"
― Justin Alcala
Lily could only smell the metallic scent of her blood and the deep musky scent of the earth. She could only feel the immense guilt in her heart that was even stronger than the pain.
And then, it was a sea of blackness and agony.
It was dark, completely deep pitch black.
If it wasn't for her feet on the rocky ground, she would have thought she was floating.
She looked around, but saw nothing. Nothing that could tell her where she was and why she was there, no light to help her find a way, only an infinite black.
She tried to remember something, her name, who she was, anything, but her mind remained like an empty and lonely blackboard.
She just decided to watch around even if there was nothing interesting to see except the dark veil that surrounded her like a cloak, maybe in an attempt to bring something up from the cloud that was covering everything in her brain.
Slowly, a voice arrived at her ears like a distant whisper and she curiously turned her head in what seemed to be the right direction, trying to listen better. Maybe whoever was, they could help her.
She heard someone singing, a chanting that grew stronger in foreign words made from a rough and broken voice.
She couldn't understand the words in the anthem, but somehow it made her skin crawl while a bad feeling started to soak her heart. It started to beat faster inside the rib cage and, horrifyingly, began to follow the rhythm of the song, playing like a background drum.
