"Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore." Clary commented.
The seelie turned to her. "Welcome to the Seelie Glade, Clary Fairchild. The remotest edges of it."
"How did we get here?" She asked.
"There are entrances all through the mundane world." I replied, "you just have to know where to look."
Clary nodded, before asking another question. "Why did we have to come here to find my father?"
"Because of your necklace." Meliorn turned back, pointing at the purple crystal-like shard around her neck. "It's a portal shard."
Jace huffed. "Tell us something we don't know."
"How does it work?" Meliorn questioned, ignoring Jace's comment.
"When I touch the crystal and I think of someone, I can see where they are." Clary answered.
As if the Seelie was teasing, he said, "I'm curious, Shadowhunters, who knows so much about Portals, did you never wonder why this Portal shard doesn't behave the way normal Portals do?"
The lightbulb in my head lit up. "Normal portals can only take you to places you've been."
Jace shook his head. "I guess I never really thought about it."
"I see Isabelle and Amelia are the smart ones in the family." He stated amusedly, before explaining, "your portal shard works the way it does because it's a piece of a portal from another dimension."
"Another dimension?" Clary asked, eyebrows furrowed. "You're saying there's a portal in some other universe that can take us to anyone if we just think of them?"
Meliorn agreed. "If you can find the only portal still standing in that dimension, it will take you to your father." He explained. "These trees are where the alternate dimensions intersect the Seelie realm."
"How is it possible that the Clave doesn't know about your dimensional doorways?" Jace asked.
"They are our most guarded secret. We are their protectors." Meliorn replied. "Only Seelies know of their existence."
"Then why are you telling us?" I asked the Seelie.
"I owe you and Clary a life debt, and I don't like being indebted to anyone." He told us regrettably.
Clary glanced at the entrance. "What would happen if-"
"The Seelie Queen finds out I've shared this with you?" Meliorn cuts off, "I could be executed.
Jace sighed. "Well, we'll be extra careful then."
Meliorn gave him a look. "There is no 'we' in this scenario. Only Clary goes in to find the Portal."
"You've given us no reason to trust you, Seelie." Jace spat.
Clary tried to comfort him. "He brought us here."
I shrugged. "Clary has a point."
The seelie began speaking in a foreign language, which I recognized to be their mother tongue.
"I knew the Seelies were one with nature, but..." Clary trailed off, amazed with the seelie's magic.
"This will establish a connection to the other dimension." Meliorn said.
"What's it like?" I asked him, "the other dimension. Is it like this one?"
Meliorn continued to move his hands around. "It is, but it isn't."
