I woke up that morning with the sun in my eyes. I felt my face against Ashton’s chest that was rising up and down steadily. Memories of last night came flooding back and I felt a small smile on my face.
Ashton inhaled deeply and pulled me closer to him. “Stephanie?” he asked quietly.
“I’m awake.” I said.
“Ok.” he mumbled.
I looked up at him and gave him a small grin. He returned the gesture and kissed my forehead.
“Do you have to work today?” I asked.
“No. Do you?” I asked.
“No. I’m just going to relax all day.” I said.
“Can I stay here with you?” he asked.
“Do you even have extra clothes?” I asked.
“Yeah. I always carry an extra set of clothes or two in my car.” he said.
“Whatever. You’re just saying that.”
“Mhm.” I mumbled.
He kissed my forehead gently.
“Thank you.” I said.
“For what?” he asked.
“Telling me more about you. I know it was hard for you to open up like that.”
“Well you’re my girlfriend, you should know stuff about me.” he said. “Thank you.”
“For what?” I asked.
“Forgiving me and making an awesome time last night.” he said.
I kissed his bare chest and he pulled me even closer.
I loved being close to him like this. When there’s no space in between us, and we’re both breathing steadily. It’s like it’s only us in the world. It’s peaceful, but it gets me excited at the same time. It’s the small things like this when we’re together that makes me feel the butterflies in my stomach.
“Do you want breakfast?” Ashton asked.
“Sure.” I said.
We both stood up and I felt something. “Ouch.” I said.
“What?” he asked.
“My legs are kind of sore.” I said.
“Then I did my job right.” he said before slapping my butt.
“Ow.” I whined.
“Come on babe.” he chuckled and held his hand out for me to take.
Ashton and I were sitting on the couch, just watching TV when I decided to ask him something.
“Ashton?” I asked.
“What do you want for your birthday?” I looked at him.
His eyes became unglued from the TV and looked at me. “What do you mean?” he asked.
“What do you want for your birthday?” I repeated.
“I don’t know.” he chuckled. “I don’t really want anything honestly. I don’t really need anything either.”
