It's finally Friday, the day of my audition of sorts.
I'm so nervous right now.
I'm rummaging around in my closet, trying to figure out what I'm supposed to wear.
'It's a bar, so casual clothes is a definitie no. I can't get too dressed up or I'll look desperate.' I said out loud.
I listened to myself and thought about how crazy I was for having a conversation with myself.
I threw another outfit on the ground.
"Babe!" Brian yelled from downstairs.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"You're gonna do great. Stop being nervous and just pick something to wear. You're going to look beautiful regardless." Brian said.
I smiled to myself.
He couldn't even see me and he knew what I was doing.
You gotta love him.
Now to pick this outfit.
I laughed to myself as I imagined Cynthia throwing all of her clothes on the floor, thinking nothing was good enough.
She cracks me up sometimes.
She is so quick to doubt herself.
I heard a knock on the door and went over, opening it.
Standing on my porch was Mike.
I tried not to glare at him and I fought the urge to slam the door in his face.
He was Cynthia's ride after all.
She'd be pissed if I was mean to him.
I took in a deep breath and opened the door wider.
"What's up, Mike?" I said, trying to be polite.
"Hey Brian. Where's Cynthia?" He asked, looking passed me.
"Still getting dressed. Come on in." I said through gritted teeth.
It felt wrong inviting him into my house when he was trying to steal my girlfriend from me.
Shemay not believe me.
But I know when a guy wants something that isn't his. That's the look Mike has on his face everytime he looks at Cynthia.
"So, what's this job exactly?" I asked, trying to make conversation and get information at the same time.
"Well, I'm a bartender and we need another one, so I asked my boss to let Cynthia try it out." Mike said.
"So she'll be working with you mostly?" I asked.
Mike looked at me and smiled.
"If she gets the job she will be. I'm not worried. I have full confidence that she's going to do great." Mike said with a proud look on his face.
I fought to control my anger as he talked like he knew Cynthia better than I did.
"Yeah. Cynthia's extremely smart and talented. She can do anything she sets her mind to." I said.
Mike smiled again and looked around the house.
I leaned against the wall and watched him.
His eyes landed on a picture of me and Cynthia on the beach.
I was holding her in my arms and her legs were wrapped around my waist, we were kissing and the sunset was in the background.
I grinned as he tensed up.
"We took that picture on our two year anniversary. I took her to the beach and we had a nice dinner and walked along the shore. Later on that night we.... well, you know." I said with a knowing smile as he tensed even more.
I loved watching him squirm.
"I don't really need to know about your sex life." Mike said harshly.
I smiled even wider.
"On the contrary, I think you do. For some insane reason, you've deluded yourself into thinking that you can take Cynthia away from me. Man, are you wrong." I said darkly, crossing my arms over my chest.
"What makes you think that?" Mike asked.
"I'm a guy. I know how you think." I said.
"I'm nothing like you. I actually care about Cynthia. I don't just keep her around because I'm so selfish I don't want anyone else to have her." Mike said a little louder.
My nostrils flared in anger.
"You don't know shit about me. I love Cynthia, more then anything. And she loves me." I said.
"Yeah. You love her so much that you cheated on her. Lord knows how many times!" Mike said.
My eyes widened.
That was too far.
"You need to be very careful with what you say to me. You're Cynthia's friend and even though I don't like you. She wants to be your friend. I'm not gonna stand in the way. But the second you try and take advantage of my girlfriend and try to trick her into being with you, you're going to have me to deal with. That's not something you want." I said darkly.
I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and I backed away from Mike and went to the stairs.
"Wow." I said, grinning from ear to ear.
Cynthia came down the stairs in a sexy little strapless black dress.
Her black stilettos made noise with each step she took.
Her make up was done and she looked fucking gorgeous.
I had to hold on to the post on the stairs to keep myself from running up to her.
Her hair was down a lightly curled, flowing down her bare shoulders.
"Look at you. You're gorgeous, baby." I said as she stood one step away from me.
She grinned hugely and wrapped her arms around my neck.
"Thank you, baby. It's not too much, is it?" She asked me.
"Hell no. You're gonna knock them dead." I said encouragingly.
She grinned and pulled me into a kiss.
I smiled as well and wrapped my arms around her waist, lifting her up easily and bringing her down the last step.
She giggled when I put her down and gave me another peck.
"How do I look, Mike?" She asked, spinning in a little circle.
His eyes were glued to her and I took in a deep breath again.
"You look beautiful. You ready to go?" He asked softly.
Cynthia nodded excitedly and turned to me again.
"Wish me luck, baby." She said with a grin.
"You don't need luck. You're amazing at everything you do. You're gonna do great. I'll see you when you get home." I said, wrapping my arms around her again.
She leaned into me and rested her head on my shoulder.
I looked at Mike over her shoulder and gave him a warning with my eyes.
He looked away and I gave Cynthia another kiss before she walked out the door.
I gave her a quick smack on the ass and she giggled as she walked off the porch.
I smiled and waved at her as they drove away.
'I hope he doesn't do anything stupid.' I thought to myself.
