Zayn's look of relief when the van pulled up at the hotel made both Niall and I laugh out loud. "I can't believe you just left me here!" He yelled, sliding into the car. "Really mature guys," he added when Niall and I both pulled out our phones and pretended to be talking to people.
"I'm sorry baby," I said, putting on my best puppy dog face.
"Yeah, baby, we're sorry," Niall mimicked.
"Unbelievable." He threw his hands up and glared pointedly at Niall. "Are you coming with us then?"
"Right, leaving!" Niall chirped when he saw Zayn's death look. "Congratulations you two!"
"And you told him. What a surprise," Zayn grumbled.
"Are you mad?" I asked incredulously.
"A little bit! Yeah!" He snapped. "You went and told fucking Niall before I've even told my mum! You tell him everything first. You should be coming to me before anyone else!" He told the driver to take us to a jewelry store that was far enough away that the fans couldn't follow us.
"I couldn't exactly tell you about our engagement first, you were there!" I snapped back.
"You know what I meant!"
"He's my best friend, Zayn!" I yelled. "Of course I go to him first! Just like you go to Liam whenever you have a problem!"
"No, I go to you! Because you're my fiancee and that's what you do!" He roared. "But you don't do that! You go to Niall!"
"That's not true!" I said defensively.
"It's completely true! Do you realize that you Tweet to him more than you do to me? That there are more photographs of you with him than with me?"
"You're mad because Niall and I are on the internet together?" I screamed.
"It's not just that! Gemma, he met your family before I did!" He yelled back.
"We weren't allowed to be public!"
"HE FUCKING KNEW YOU WERE PREGNANT BEFORE I DID!" Zayn's volume had reached a new level and I could feel the tears come streaming down my face.
"Stop the car," I told the driver.
"Where are you going?" Zayn demanded.
"Back to the hotel. Call me when you're done being a jealous prick."
"Don't hold your breath!" He yelled angrily as I slammed the door shut behind me.
As I walked back to the hotel I looked down at my belly. "I'm sorry, you two. I'm sure that hurt your ears." I stormed through the back entrance of the hotel, unwilling to let the camped out fans see me upset. I wanted nothing more than go find Niall and let him hug me while I cried, but I couldn't do that. Niall was the reason that Zayn and I had gotten into this stupid fight, and I couldn't go see him without being reminded that I might not be getting married because of it. I cried the entire elevator ride, letting the sobs rake through my body without shame.
I wasn't even sure where my feet were taking me as I traipsed down the hallway. I found myself knocking on a door, not fully aware of whose it was. "Gemma, what's wrong?" Liam said as he opened the door and saw my face. "Are you hurt? Is something wrong with the babies?"
I shook my head and wrapped my arms around his torso. I clung to his body and just let myself cry. He immediately hugged me back and gently pulled me into the room, letting the door swing shut behind him. "I think Zayn and I just broke up," I sobbed.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked gently.
I shook my head again and we made our way over to the couch. "What's going on?" Louis asked, emerging from the bathroom. "Oh my god, Gemma are you all right?"
"No!" I wailed, burying my face into Liam's chest. I felt the cushions sink to my right as Louis sat beside us. "Zayn and I got into a huge fight, and I don't know if he's going to get over it."
"Of course he will, sweetheart," Louis said, placing a hand on my back. "He loves you."
"He shouldn't be jealous of Niall," I cried. I was somewhat aware that I was drenching Liam's shirt, but he didn't seem to mind and I couldn't bring myself to move away from his chest.
"That's what this is about?" Liam exclaimed.
I nodded miserably, forcing myself to sit up. "He says that I go to Niall first and that I should be going to him."
"Do you?" Liam asked.
"I didn't think so, but he found plenty of examples. I don't mean to do that to him. It's just the Niall, and the rest of you for that matter, are the closest thing I have to brothers. Of course I love you, but it's not the same as how I love him. When he smiled after hearing that I was pregnant I knew that he was the one. And when he proposed this morning, saying yes was as easy as breathing," I said.
"HE PROPOSED?" They both yelled simultaneously.
"Yes, but it doesn't matter because I don't think he wants me anymore," I said shakily.
"Of course he does," Louis replied. "I've seen him with plenty of girls, Gemma. But I've never seen him look at someone the way he looks at you. I'd like to think that's how I look at Eleanor and it's definitely the way that Liam looks at Danielle. He's absolutely head over heels for you, Gem."
"Just because you got in one stupid fight doesn't mean he's going to stop loving you," Liam assured me. "I bet he's just as gutted about this fight as you are."
"In fact, I know he is," Louis agreed. "Haz just texted me, asking if I knew why Zayn was crying. He's completely out of his league dealing with a distraught Bradford bad boy."
I couldn't stop myself from smiling through my tears at the sound of his nickname. "Do you really think it's going to be ok?"
"I know it's going to be ok," Liam replied firmly.
I spent another few moments in the arms of these two boys that I loved before getting myself off the couch to go talk to Zayn, the boy who I was going to marry.
