"You go first." I nodded at Sam
"Okay, but my news is really bad." she said
"I'm sure it's not as bad as mine." I grumbled
"Okay, so I was listening in on my mom's conversation over the phone and she was bragging to Patricia that she was the one who called the cops and told them you were prostituting yourself." she blurted out
"That's it?" I asked
"Yes, but isn't that such bull crap! I can't believe that she would ever do something like that. I mean, how ridiculous that she feels she needs to be in our business. Isn't that just-"
"I'm pregnant." I shut her up
"Very funny." Jamie laughed
"No, like, for real." I sighed
"Wait, cross your heart for real?" Sam asked
"Cross my heart." I motioned a cross over my chest
"Oh, oh my god Lola." Jamie stuttered. Sam was silent.
"I've got an ultrasound to find out the due date and shit in two days." I explained
"The game is off. We aren't doing this anymore. I'm throwing this stupid thing away." Jamie said, grabbing the whiteboard
"No! I've figured out a prize." I smiled
"You're going to keep playing?" Sam asked
"No, but you two are. Whoever wins, get's to be the godmother." I giggled
"Are you going to keep it?" Jamie asked
"I'm definitely not going to get it aborted, and I won't put it through the system. The state has special housing for pregnant homeless teenagers. If I get a part time job, they'll pay for an apartment, and for half of my living expenses. Veronica is signing me up for it tomorrow." I explained
"I'm not letting you stay in that god awful motel. We're going to get your things, and you're staying here until you get into the program." Sam demanded
"Fine, but if it takes longer than a week, I'm back at the motel."
When we got to my room, Sam clutching her pepper spray, Cameron was standing by the door.
"Long time no see." He nodded, "What's with your posse?"
"I'm getting my stuff, and I needed some help." I stated
"You're leaving?" he asked, following us into the room
"Yeah, I can't stay here anymore. I've got another responsibility to take care of now."
"What, you get a dog?" he laughed
"Something like that." I rolled my eyes as I grabbed my bag
"Well, what is it?" he grabbed my arm
"It's none of your fucking business, I think." I spat
"C'mon, I'm on your side. Just let me help. Did you get busted for something? I can cover for you." he whispered
"No, just... Give us a second, okay?" I told Sam and Jamie, they nodded, grabbed some things from the room, and waited outside the door
"I'm just going to come right out and say it because I don't know how to say it any other way, but, I'm pregnant." I sighed. He blinked a couple of times and looked at me funny
"Is it- I mean, is it mine?" he asked, letting go of my arm
"I don't really know. There are a few people it could be, but you're definitely in the running."
"How far along are you?" he asked
"I'm not sure. I find out on Monday."
"Can I come along?" he asked, hopeful
"I don't think that would be a good idea. Just let me catch my breath and find out what's going on. They may be able to do a paternity test while I'm still pregnant, but I don't know. We'll juts have to see."
"Yeah, okay. Just keep me updated, and if you need anything, let me know." he nodded. I could tell he was in shock, because he mumbled to himself the whole way out.
"Are you ready to go, Lola?" Sam poked her head in
"Yeah, I'm ready." I took one last look around the room, then left with a sigh.
