"Do you have a minute?"
Georgie shuffled nervously beside him while she waited for his answer. Sam was shelling lobster at the sink for an order that came in ten minutes ago.
His eyes did a quick dart around the kitchen to make sure things were going smoothly.
"Cut that in half. What is it?"
"Michaela wants to know if you know someone in the restaurant, one of the customers."
His face scrunched up at that and he turned to her fully, his hands over the sink.
"I don't know, maybe? Did something happen?"
"This person said that.. I'm just stating their exact words.. this is not me trying to offend you or-"
She went closer to him and lowered her voice.
"He asked who made the food and when I said your name, he... said a curse word and told me to tell you that he doesn't..eat food prepared by losers."
I should have known.
He laughed deeply to himself.
"He could've said something much worse. Finish this for me, will you? I'll be back."
Georgie frowned at his relaxed stature but did as she was told. She really wanted to be out there to see the exchange, nothing like this ever happens with Chef Holden.
He left the kitchen and strode into the restaurant, his eyes searching. The customers who knew him waved and greeted him, which stalled him a little.
He spotted him, them at the front of the restaurant, on the left side. Sam had never once in his life wanted to wipe the idiotic smirk off his friend's face.
That smirk was directed at Zelah, who was soaking it all in, laughing like she didn't have a care in the world.
He strode towards them with his fist clenched, trying not to draw attention to himself.
"He really is something. There was a time when he had drank so much, he convinced us to go to his girlfriend's house and he knelt down and asked her to marry him. I kid you not, I wish I had the video with me. Crying and everything, especially when she said no. It was hilarious!"
Zelah saw him first and pressed her lips together to hold her laughter.
His friend gave him a wide you-caught-me smile and waved at him.
"Did you get bigger? And I'm talking body size not-"
"Ookay! Zelah, can you please go in the kitchen, there's nobody there. I'll join you in a few."
He said that but gave a pointed look at Thomas who was watching the both of them curiously.
"Yes Chef. Bye Tommy."
"I'll be seeing you soon, ma cherie!"
He blew her a kiss and she laughed and walked away with him staring after her.
Sam blocked his vision and crossed his arms, fuming internally.
Thomas chuckled and stood up, patting him on the shoulder.
"Let's take the drama outside, there are innocent civilians around."
"How long have you been here?"
