Chapter One

Tabitha

I ran, and I jumped, and I dodged. I flew through the city – jumping from building to building, running down alley way after alley way, and dodging all the street cameras I could. I knew it was dangerous for me, to run in the city in Wolf form but I couldn't help it.

My mother was forever telling me to be careful when I Shifted, but I liked being a little reckless. Even when I no longer lived at home, I still could imagine her scolding me if she knew. She would say it was too dangerous, the risks of someone seeing me were too great.

But she didn't know what is was like. She was human, my step father too, so neither of them understood what it was like. The completeness I felt in my Wolf form, and the excitement it brought me. I loved it, had since I first Shifted at fifteen.

My mother had gotten knocked up in high school, when she was only sixteen. Her boyfriend at the time, disappeared and I had never met him. But on my fifteenth birthday, when I Shifted for the first time, I realised that my father was obviously...a little different. My mother had tried to find him, but she had moved away when she'd found out she was pregnant so couldn't locate him.

My mother – but not my step father – knew what I was. But she still didn't understand me. She didn't know what it was like to be a Werewolf, to be able to change forms from a human to a beast.

I was living in the middle of the city, as I had been doing modelling work. However, I had just been fired from my agency. I had a big photoshoot, and unfortunately, I didn't make it. I had Shifted the night before, and I just couldn't shift back. I had been stuck in my form for a full week, before I managed to Shift back.

But after being AWOL for a week, meant I was instantly fired – because I was unreliable. I couldn't really complain, what could I say? Sorry I was stuck a giant mythical Wolf and couldn't come in. No, it didn't really work like that. I simply packed my shit up, and left.

However, I decided to take the opportunity to enjoy my life a little more. And the first thing on the agenda was my best friend's twenty first birthday. So, I had travelled up to her hometown to visit her. She lived in the middle of nowhere, so I stopped in a city about a mile away, to have a run.

When I was satisfied with my run, I headed back to where I had left my clothing. I had hidden them in a dark alleyway, behind a dumpster. I slithered through the dark night, before I found myself back in the alleyway – I found my clothing.

I took a deep breath before Shifting back. It wasn't exactly painful, but it wasn't pleasant feeling either. I then pulled on the dress I had hidden, and a pair of black stilettos. Picking up my clutch, I headed back out into the street.

I carried on walking through the city, feeling the night breeze blowing into my face. Eyes glanced my way – mostly by drunken men. It was near throwing out time, so most people were either on their ways homes or finding somewhere else to drink. Some men shouted out to men, but I just kept walking.

I would say I was fairly pretty, I'd never been short of male attention. I wasn't necessarily tall, but my curves and long legs gave the appearance I was taller than my average five foot six. It didn't help that I didn't usually leave the house if heels less than six inches. With my figure, along with my long brown hair and bright green eyes, I was snapped up as a model by the age of thirteen.

When I reached my car, I quickly hopped in and headed towards my friend house. Katy and I had gone to school together, and before she had moved away with her boyfriend we had been inseparable. She was turning twenty-one in just a number of days, and as much fun as texting and facetime was, it was nothing compared to seeing my childhood best friend in person.
