Having a best friend that also was the captain of the basketball team definitely had its perks. You'd always have a front row seat saved for you at every game, and because Shawn didn't have a girlfriend, you were the person he'd ask to wear his jersey around school on game days. This usually left many girls at your school envious, but you were grateful to be walking around campus with your best friend's last name on your back. It was a nice feeling knowing that between all of the girls that threw themselves at Shawn and his other friends, you were that one that he asked to be wearing his number and name.

The game tonight would be a big match-up for your school, North High, as the basketball team would be playing your long-time rival, West Bay Academy. It was often a game that was packed especially since it was a home game for North High School, and it was a game you didn't want to miss. What brought the match-up even more hype was how this game would determine who moved on to regionals since both the North High and West Bay basketball teams were undefeated.

The game has been the only thing Shawn has talked about since last season when the team came short and lost by just two points. It also didn't help that he already had some beef with West Bay's team captain, Nathan Martin, which was another reason why he wanted to win so bad. He's only brought up Nathan once, but that was enough for you to know that he didn't like the boy. Your childhood bestfriend never told you why he hated him so much, but you knew it's been another motive and reason for Shawn to win this game. Ever since then, he's been on the court from dusk to dawn training and perfecting his shots and skill. Both being seniors, you understood how much Shawn wanted this win under his belt before graduating from North High as his excitement soon became yours as well. It concerned you how often he was working out, but you knew how much he wanted to take this win for the school and himself.

You took your seat in the blue stand as students wearing blue and black, your school colors, started flooding the room. Soon enough, the gym was crowded with people from both North High and West Bay, meaning the game would start any minute.

Right as that thought occurred, the cheerleaders ran across the court and did their usual mini routine before your principal at the microphone introduced the teams. You couldn't help but grin from ear to ear as you saw Shawn run out of the locker room doors. You could already see the concentration and hunger in his usually bright, topaz eyes. Bringing yourself to your feet, you cheered loudly for Shawn as they introduced him as a part of the team's starting five. His eyes searched for you in the crowd until his eyes met yours. Winking at you before turning his attention back on the refs, you were left with a creeping pink blush.

You weren't going to deny it when it came to your best friend: Shawn was definitely good-looking and had a smile that would send any person into the sky. He knew all of the right words to flatter someone, and he knew how to treat people. He was charming all around, making it no mystery why so many girls craved to be acknowledged by him. Admittedly, you had a major crush on him in your sophomore year and many grades leading up to that, but you quickly pushed away the thought and possibility of ruining a great friendship between the two of you. The two of you have known each other since the 2nd grade and you didn't want to put that on the line. Embarrassingly enough, you still might've had a small crush on him, but luckily it was tiny enough to be able to push to the side. Shawn never showed any signs of being interested in you – not like you were his type anyways. He always seemed to go for the more outgoing and loud girls, someone who'd balance out his just as chirpy personality.

All while reevaluating your feelings for Shawn, all 10 players on the court circled around the center of the floor for the jump. The suspense was already thickening at the air, the crowd silent as the referee tossed the ball into the air. You clapped as the ball was passed to Shawn, who was already making his way through the tall defenders. He hastily yet smoothly dribbled up to the three-point line to shoot, exactly how you'd seen him do behind closed doors in practice a million times. As the net made the sound of a 'swish' you and the crowd went wild.
