I'm sure most of you are familiar with
23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
But have you ever thought about what this commonly-known chapter of the bible means to you?
My guess is, no. It's just something we learned growing up. Really, though, what does this chapter mean?
God is with us, even when we sin. Even when we "walk through the valley of the shadow of death." He tells us not to be afraid, because he is with us. Even in the darkest of times, we are reassured by God's comfort and presence. We also see in other books of the bible, such as Matthew, the comfort of God.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Even in your darkest days, God brings his open arms and comfort. Don't rely on worldly things to make you happy, because it won't work! There is a vacancy left behind in our souls that can only be filled by God's love, mercy, peace and comfort.
I'm sure all of you, including myself, have been through times of distress or sadness. For me, that would be anxiety, school stress, etc. Maybe you struggle with financial issues, or school like I do. Maybe you have a job or are trying to support your kids. Whatever the case may be, God is with us all. He comforts us, and takes care of us. Always remember that he will not put weight on your shoulders that you won't be able to carry.
