Chapter 9

I made it back down the hall, and was heading straight for the stair until two arms wrapped around me, pulling me to a stop. Almost causing me to flip to my face, and probably would have caused me to get serious rug burn.
“Let go!” I whispered harshly.
He maneuvered me till my back was against the wall, his hands planted on the wall, basically blocking me in, and I had noticed he had but a white shirt on, which was a good thing. I really didn’t need that distraction.
“What did he mean by that?” His eyes showed so many emotions.
What do I do? Or even better, what do I say? “I..” My eyesight was getting a little blurry. Great, just great, I was going to cry in front of him now too?
“Why did you keep this from me?” He sort of whispered it to himself, instead of to me.
“Everett, I..” I couldn’t think of anything to say to him, my brain was in a fog or something. I couldn’t think at all. So many things were going through my mind.
“She‘s ours.” he stated finally, opening his eyes, staring straight into mine. I saw happiness, and nothing else.
“Yes.” I whispered.
Anger took over suddenly. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
I kind of snorted. “Isn‘t it obvious?”
“Guess not. So why?”
“Jaclyn.”
He slammed his fist slightly against the wall. “Fuck.” he muttered under his breath. “Can we just not talk about her?” he chuckled without humor. “So fucking what Michelle. You could have at least told me you were pregnant. And with my child at that.”
“I know that.” I pressed on his chest with one finger, since he was getting to close for comfort. “Don‘t you think I thought about that you idiot?”
“Not long enough. And stop that.” He grabbed my grabbed, engulfing it with his, looking down at it irritatingly.
“I just..” I bit my bottom lip. “I didn’t want you to feel stuck.” I inhaled deeply.
“Stuck?” he arched one of his eyebrows. “With?”
“Me.” I finally let out, pulling my hand free. “Us.” I sighed.
“Michelle,..”
“Don‘t.” I shook my head, and tried to smile. “What‘s done is done.”
“Are you kidding me.” he pounded his fist against the wall again, causing me to flinch this time. “I missed, one year of my daughters life, because of your selfish choice.”
His words cut deep. I knew this would come one day though, I guess I just didn’t calculate how bad some of his words might hurt. “It was a difficult decision for me to make Everett. If only you knew what I-”
“Well, I don‘t, and why is that? Because you never fucking told me.” he spat out.
“It was hard for me!” I practically yelled in his face.
“God. Do you ever stop thinking about yourself? For once Michelle, think about what I‘ve been missing.”
He was right.
For the first time, I thought about things in his point of view. He’s never rocked her to sleep, woke up in the middle of the night to give her, her bottle, played with her, token a picture with her. The list could go on forever.
