Chapter 4

Jason's POV

Percy and I leave Camp Half Blood about a week after I tell him. The car ride home is silent, you could cut the tension with a knife. I could tell Percy was upset at me for leaving but he understood. It was for the greater good. He'd still miss me though, and I'd miss him as well.

We get to our apartment and Percy shuffles in behind me, silently. I set my bag down and break the silence, "I'm sorry, Percy. I know this is hard for you."

Percy scoffs, "Don't be sorry, it's for the greater good. Besides, it'll only be for a week or two, and I can always stay over Annabeth's if I need to." He says this but still looks defeated. I close the distance between us and embrace him. He wraps his arms around my neck and I wrap my arms around his waist. "I'm gonna miss you, Seaweed Brain," I say into his wavy black hair.

"I'll miss you too, Superman," Percy says into the crook of my neck. I smile and lift us slightly off the ground. Percy clings tighter to me as he notices we've left the ground.

"Da-dada-daa!" I laugh out and Percy giggles. I set us back down and Percy stares at me. "What?" I question, tilting my head.

He shakes his head and smirks, "I love you so much." My cheeks go red and I grin happily.

I kiss him gently, "I love you too." He smiles at this and brings me closer to him.

We spend the next week preparing me for my journey. Percy and I packed my clothes and essentials. I packed some nectar and ambrosia when Percy wasn't looking, just in case. At the end of the week, Leo arrives at my door smiling. Percy smiles back at him and we leave for the airport. Percy drops us off with a sad smile. I hug him tightly and for as long as I can before Leo drags me away. "C'mon Blondie, we have a long journey in for us. After we get off the plane, we're going to head to camp to gather more supplies and armor," Leo says while we walk to the terminal. I just nod along, half-listening.

The plane ride takes what feels like forever, but we make it intact. Leo rents a car and we head to Camp Jupiter, excitement coursing through my body. I have to admit, I sort of missed questing. Even though we risked our life 24/7, the adventure was fun. We head to New Rome and to Leo and Calypso's house. It's a quaint little home but it's comfortable, exactly what I expected from them. I stand in the middle of the living room while Leo rummages around the house, throwing things everywhere.

"What exactly are you looking for?" I ask, as my eyes follow Leo while he runs around.

Leo stops for a moment, "Believe it or not, a book." I nod my head and glance around, my eyes landing on an old-looking book.

I pick it up and show to to Leo, "Is this it?" Leo rolls his eyes and strides towards me. He takes the book of my hand and starts flipping through it.

He mumbles to himself but stops suddenly. He hands me the book and points to a picture. It's a golden staff with a blue orb on top. A single bird wing is holding the orb in place and a golden thread spirals around the staff. "This is one of the first staffs Hecate used, it's extremely powerful. We need to find it and take it. Luckily, I have had some outside help. You remember Luna, daughter of Nyx? Turns out, she gets around a lot in the magic community and gave me the business card of one of her contacts. So, we're going to Oregon, my dude." I nod as I take all of this in. I've never been to Oregon.

"Well, I guess we better get going, if we have to go all the way to Oregon. Where exactly in Oregon are we going?" I ask taking the book back from Leo, putting it in my bag.

Leo smiles, going to grab more things, "Arcadia," he says, continuing to rummage around his house. Wow, when Calypso sees this mess, she's going to flip. Leo comes back to me, satisfied with his luggage. "Let's get going, homie. The rental car is waiting for us, and I'm bringing Festus just in case." I smile remembering the times we rode on Festus. Leo leads me out his front door and we're off. Let the adventure begin!
