Prom. To some people it was just an excuse to dress up in nice clothes and take pictures for social media, and to others it was an important celebration to commemorate their journey at high school. Even though the football club and the drama club didn't have that much in common, they both felt the excitement for prom more than anything else.
Both Alec and Magnus signed up for the prom committee, both of them going with their different friendship groups to the meeting at lunch. Alec and his friends got there first, sitting at the table closest to the front. Their opinions would be heard the loudest.
"Let's hope that the teacher doesn't let the meatheads do everything," Isabelle commented, twirling the bit of gum she was chewing around her index finger, referring to the jocks. Alec replied, "It's not just their prom." He rubbed at the back of his head, the injury from the weekend before still irritating him.
Alec's friendship group consisted of; his siblings, Jace and Isabelle, Clary, Simon, and Maia. There were a few others who sometimes hung around them, as there were a few others in the drama club, but it was usually just the six of them. They talked a bit more, laughing when Simon joked about the jocks not showing up because they got lost.
Sadly, this joke did not come true. They all walked in, the laughter dying down in Alec's group as they all watched the smug grins on the jocks' faces grow, one of them winking at Isabelle. She began to blow a kiss at him, then smiling and giving him the middle finger, to which he and his friends laughed at, all oohing like children.
The teacher sitting at the front stood up, telling them all to shush and walking further towards them. "Okay, so obviously you are all going to have very different ideas about what you want the prom to look like and what the night will consist of. So, I have decided to split you from your friendship groups and partner you with someone who you will have to get along with." The teacher smiled evilly, everyone groaning and saying that was unfair.
"If you are in partners, then you can argue on your section of the prom and come to a compromise. I will pick your partners and your roles, so no fussing. Any questions?" She asked, seeming definite in her decision. There was silence for a few seconds, Clary quickly putting her hand down when the teacher clapped her hands together.
She wrote on the board the theme of the prom, which was; 'Hollywood'. Alec could already see the ridiculous costumes that some people were going to wear. It wasn't a bad theme, though, he could imagine it turning out well. He prayed to God that he got given the role of decorations, although working with a jock was not ideal. He would probably have to shout to get a word in.
The teacher began partnering people up, firstly partnering Simon up with Raphael, who wasn't that bad of a jock, but still a jock. Simon shuffled to an empty seat, Raphael sitting opposite him, seeming just as uncomfortable as he was. Maia, Clary, Jace, and Isabelle were all paired up with the worst jocks, Maia silently cursing the world as she was paired up with Jordan; her ex-boyfriend.
Then it was just Alec and Magnus left, Alec putting his head in his hands, already wanting to quit. Magnus shot him a short smile, getting up and sitting beside him. "You two have decorations. Don't screw it up." The teacher said, grabbing her bag and leaving the students to it.
Alec felt Magnus staring at him, turning to look at him to give him a confused glance. "Sorry, I just realised that you're the guy I hit with my football last week. What's your name again?" Magnus said with a small laugh, holding out his hand for Alec to shake it.
"Alec," Alec said with a small forced smile, taking his hand and shaking it. The eye contact kept intact for a weirdly-long amount of time, Magnus eventually breaking it as he said, "Sorry, yeah, I'm Magnus. Nice to meet you." Alec nodded, pretending as if that was new information. He wondered if he would even be able to tolerate Magnus up until the prom.
