“Don't yell at me!”
“When people do stupid things, they deserve to be yelled at!”
Zelah tried to slam the door to the changing room but he stopped it and went in after her, fuming.
“What the hell were you thinking?? Are you trying to get me fired?”
“She was asking for it. So I felt obliged to give it to her.” She shot back.
He threw his hands in the air and tried to say something but the words wouldn't come out.
Zelah calmly sat down and rummaged through her bag while he paced in front of her.
“You were about to slap a customer. Didn't they teach you not to do that at school?? Zelah, I need you to control yourself.”
She smiled and pulled a medicine packet out of her bag and put one in her mouth, swallowing it dry.
“Let's just say if it wasn't for you, I would've killed her. So you saved a life.”
He grabbed the packet out of her hands and pulled her to her feet.
“What are you taking?”
She rolled her eyes and took it out of his hands, earning a glare.
“Oh, we're changing the subject now?”
“Zelah.” His voice was low and full of anger. She grinned at him and put her bag against the wall.
“Samuel, what happened to you leaving me alone? And being professional? I'd really like you to stick to that. It's been a wonderful week with your silence, really.”
“First thing? Don't ever call me that. I don't have a problem with leaving you alone, trust me. You're an annoying, selfish little brat who loves attention. If you behave, there would be no reason for me to even mention your name.”
He finished his rant and she crossed her arms, regarding him with a smirk. He was confused about the look on her face.
She looked happy and relaxed, smiling at everyone all morning. The coffee issue was still going strong but she was better in a way that he couldn't explain.
“You're staring at me.”
“Because you're beautiful. Your skin is glowing. But it's not because of rest. You're happy. What is going on?”
Her mouth was open and she stared at him in shock before she burst out laughing.
“Beautiful? Glowing?? I had no idea you knew those words, considering how you don't use them that often. You know, because you're single and all?”
Her words broke him and he chuckled a little, shaking his head.
“I don't have time for this. I have to go back to work. You can keep your little secret, I don't really care. Just refrain from fighting anyone? For the sake of my job.”
He turned to leave then stopped, turning back to face her.
“Oh and one more thing. Go get me a latte. That will insure your re-entry into my kitchen.”
“Aye, captain. I'll be there in a minute.”
He shook his head and muttered a curse word to himself, leaving the room. She heard it and bit her tongue to keep from laughing.
She let out a long, happy sigh and checked her phone for messages. When she saw Fred's name on the screen, she squealed internally and hurriedly clicked on it.
