I saw a note on my door through blurry eyes. It was from the landlord.
RENT IS DUE BY TOMORROW!
I wiped my eyes and went inside to grab the cash. I walked down the hall and knocked on his door. I could hear the music playing from inside.
"Hello?" he answered the door.
"Hi, John," I said.
John was a forty-eight year old man who had balding gray hair and a thin figure. He had a tall, spidery figure. When John was younger, he had been in an orchestra, playing the piano - one very similar to the grande piano that I knew was just past the door.
The piano that was the exact color of Dominic's eyes.
I shook my head, trying to get Dominic out of my mind and shoved the money at John.
"It's the rent," I said.
"Thanks," he said, shutting the door in my face.
I went back to my apartment and shut the door. I sunk down, curling up in a ball against the door.
A whole mix of emotions were running through my head. Sadness, anger, betrayal, longing, devastatio-
Hold on, longing?
He's a jerk, Riannan, I thought to myself. You were right about him from the start. The bastard told Lauren everything. He didn't deserve my pity.
I felt ridiculous. I actually still wanted to be with him. Or at least I wanted to be with the guy that I had known before today happened. Before I found out who he really was.
I was so torn.
I watched Riannan run from Lauren at full speed towards the parking lot. I stood up immediately, but hesitated.
I hadn't been able to sit with Kyle and Richy because of Riannan. I was going crazy inside watching her blank facial expression, clearly masking pain. I couldn't take it. Sitting with the populars wasn't helping at all. They were all so aggravating - my charade was that much harder.
"What are you doing?" Damen asked, looking up at me.
"Sit down, Nick. You've been acting strange this whole time," Vik added.
"I'm sick of this," I said.
I walked away from the table, feeling relieved.
I went straight to Lauren.
"What did you just do?" I demanded, my voice harsh.
