Chapter One

I wrote this story a long time ago and it was my second attempt at writing a novel, so please understand there may be quite a few mistakes or scenes that don't make a lot of sense. I was only sixteen when I wrote this!

(EDITED *time stamp 2018*: In celebration of Downright Delinquents ranking #1 in Action and coming up to the anniversary of when I first posted this story when I was sixteen (somehow five years ago!?) @ADreamingReality and I have teamed up to make a fresh, new trailer for the story! It can be viewed at the top of the chapter. The trailer showcases modern clips and new actors/actresses who differ from the original casting. Please feel free to imagine whoever you like as the cast, but we thought modern clips would be more effective for the trailer).

A scream pierced the air and something sharp violently gripped my lower arm. I jolted awake with a start, gasping in alarm. I swivelled my head and frowned deeply. My best friend, Ameika, was viciously tearing up my flesh with her ridiculously long nails. I gave her a flat look and removed my arm from her grip.

"Dude, chill out. You're attracting unwanted attention," I muttered. I narrowed my eyes at the people who were gawking at us.

The heads in front of us turned back to the film and I sunk back down into my chair. We were currently seeing the new horror movie out. It was meant to be one of the scariest movies in Australia. So far I'd fallen asleep twice. I guess it did take a fair bit to scare me though. Movies were just movies. There wasn't anything to be scared about.

"I can't!" She whispered furiously, her eyes wide and alert, her fingers trembling.

Another scream choked out and she slapped her palms over her eyes. I stared in amusement before glancing at the screen. Some guy was ripping the protagonist's body a part, limb by limb. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. It was so fake, how could you even find that remotely frightening?

Lame, was the only word I could use to describe it.

I looked down the line of seats, looking at my other friend's. Some had their faces buried, while some others were staring in horror at the screen. I met Gabe's eyes, who was staring back at me in amusement, clearly finding Ameika's reaction humorous as well. I gave him a flirtatious smile, which he returned.

Rolling my eyes at him, I rested my head back and slowly my eyes drifted shut. Eventually, the loud screams and noises died away and I found myself dozing off into a not-so-comfortable sleep, yet again.

"That was awesome!" One our other group members gushed as we emerged from the overcrowded and stuffy cinemas. There were a few murmurs of agreement and head nods. I just snorted and rolled my eyes.

"Are you kidding? That was pathetic." I remarked, feeling the need to add my two cents. Ameika rolled her eyes at me, knowing exactly that I would respond like that.

Ameika was under average height, only coming to my shoulders, often making me feel like a giant. She had lightly tanned skin and mouse-brown hair which had tendrils of golden wisps, streaked through it. She had deep brown eyes and a button-nose that made you want to poke it. She looked young and acted that way most of time, often getting mistaken for her age.
