A/N: This is my very first book I uploaded to wattpad. I used to write a lot but this is the first time I'm actually writing a book. I know the first few chapters aren't the best, but I promise it gets better. Just give my book a shot, the chapters get better. :-)
Love,

Prologue:
I 'm about to fall asleep when my door creeks open and light floods my room. I squint my eyes so I can see the culprit who dares to interrupt my beauty sleep.
"What the heck?" I ask, pissed off that someone has to come into my room when I'm about to fall asleep. Everybody knows that I hate it when people do that.
"Shhhhh Em, it's only me." the familiar voice says.
"Alex? What the hell are you doing? It's like--" I glance at the clock beside my bed, "One in the freaking morning." I ask my brother confused, knowing he could hear the hint of anger in my voice.
He walks up to my bed whilst whispering "I just wanted to say bye." Bye? Why on earth couldn't he wait until the morning. Can't he see that I'm trying to sleep? He must have seen my confused look because he shushes me again before he continues "I love you so much, never forget that okay? Now go back to sleep." He kisses my hair before he turns his back on me again.
I'm too tired to object, so I listen to him trying to walk quietly back to my bedroom door. Obviously you can't expect a 14 year old boy to be quiet, it sounds more like an elephant trampling across my room, but I'm too tired to tell him that. I'll just ask him tomorrow why he was being so weird. Maybe he's high again?!'
This behaviour was weird even for him, I mean, we don't exactly have the best relationship. Of course we love each other, but we fight... a lot!
I decide to not think about this now and just close my eyes ,slowly drifting back to sleep.
Just before my brother shuts the door, I faintly hear him mutter: "Please don't hate me for this. I'm sorry. I love you Em."
An ear piercing scream startles me awake the next morning. I throw back my covers and run out of my room, following the helpless cries. They lead me down the hall to my brothers room. Slowly, I push open the door and find my mother sitting in front of his bed, clutching a piece of paper for dear life. Tears are streaming down her face and she's sobbing uncontrollably.
"Mom?" I ask warily, but she just ignores me. "Mom?.... Mom what's going on?" I ask but once again I'm just ignored. I kneel down next to her and slowly pry open the death grip she has on the piece of paper.
My hands are shaking and my heart is thumping heavily against my chest as I carefully unfold the piece of paper. My breath gets caught in my throat as I slowly read it.
Tears were now also streaming down my face, when all of a sudden I feel a sharp pain on my cheek. Through my watery eyes I look up and see my mom glaring at me. "This is all your fault. If it weren't for you he'd still be here!" She screams at me while slapping my other cheek.
All this commotion must have woken up my father as he rushes into the bedroom. When he sees the state my mother is in, he looks at me. I can see the hatred forming in his eyes as my mom tries to explain what happened. It's a miracle he understood anything through her uncontrollable sobbing.
"You bitch" I felt him slap me, "You worthless piece of shit" his slaps turn into punches, "I can't believe you would cause so much pain to your brother for him to do this. How could you? How could you do this to him? How could you do this to US?' he screams, emphasizing the 'US'. All while screaming he starts punching and slapping me.
I was trying to explain it to him, but I couldn't stop stu"It.. it... it's n-n-not m-my f-f-fault Daddy. Y-y-you and m-m-mom ke-keep f-f-ighting a-and - ' I try to explain but am cut off when my dad punches me again. ' Don't you EVER try to blame me and your mother for something that's obviously your damnfault. Go to your room. You disgust me. I don't want to see your face anymore. Amazing that something as horrible as you is related to us.' he grabs me by my hair and drags me back to my room, throwing me in.
I slump to the floor and lay there crying. How can my parents blame me for them messing up? It's not my freaking fault. I wince as my door is thrown open and my father comes in. "And shut your sister up. I can't take this shit anymore!" He screams before throwing Grace on the bed and slamming my door shut.
I ignore the pain as I jump up and rush over to my sister, who meanwhile is screaming at the top of her lungs. "Shhhhh Gracie, it's okay. Shhhhh"
After I calmed my baby sister down, I go to my bathroom to inspect my injuries. I wince when I see my face. Blood is everywhere. My lip and my left eyebrow is cut open and the right side of my face is starting to swell up and bruise.
After cleaning and bandaging my cuts I slump down on my bed and cuddle up to my sister. I jump up as fast as I can and hide Grace in my walk-in closet when I hear heavy footsteps coming up the stairs.
I let out a terrified scream as my door is slammed open...
