"appa, i'm seriously fine, it was only a minor injury." izumi reassured, but her father wasn't having any of it.
"minor injury? izumi, you were strangled and publically humiliated, why didn't you tell me anything? if i had known that was going to happen then i wouldn't have even let you step foot into that stupid party." her father sighed as he set the stew pot onto the table.
"it wasn't such a big deal, sooji's been suspended for three days and has detention for two weeks everyday. if anything, she's suffering a lot more than me." izumi shrugged, picking up her chopsticks.
her father exhaled loudly as he sat across from the girl. "izumi, please be more concerned about yourself. putting yourself before others can be dangerous, especially when that person tried to kill you." izumi nodded her head, understanding where her father was coming from.
"i'm sorry." she mumbled, feeling bad for causing her father to worry so much. izumi was all her father had left, after her mother and brother passed away, he always made sure that izumi was happy. if she wanted to go out, then he allowed it; if she wanted to buy something then he'd buy it for her; he only wanted the best for izumi.
he never thought that he'd ever get a phone call from the school telling him that his daughter was threatened and strangled. the rush of fear and adrenaline was similar to the day of the accident, when he had heard the news and rushed to the hospital as quick as possible. it was a feeling he hated. the ticking sound was still clear in his head.
"it's okay." her father smiled. "as long as you're alive, it's okay." izumi smiled, nodding her head. he suddenly remembered the boy from last night, that had brought izumi home. "but what were you doing with that boy?"
izumi choked on the soup, surprised by the sudden question. "why are you so flustered? is he your boyfriend?" he questioned as izumi gulped down her water, this time choking on her water at the question.
"b-boyfriend?!" izumi questioned, her voice rising in pitch. her father raised a questioning eyebrow as she calmed herself down.
"if he's not your boyfriend, then is hyunjin? you guys have been together for ages now, this is the right age to ask hi-"
"appa!" izumi cut her father off, her face burning red from his accusations. "me and hyunjin are just friends, and felix is just..." izumi trailed off. she didn't know what her relationship with felix was. yes the two were close, but they had too many intimate moments to be just classed as friends.
"felix is just?" her father pressed on, waiting for an answer.
"he's new. i don't know what he is to me yet." she answered truthfully, avoiding her father's eyes. her father set his chopsticks, releasing a deep sigh. izumi lifted her gaze from her food, wondering what was troubling her father so much.
"izumi, i don't know this felix guy that well, and i know this may seem out of the ordinary but..." he trailed off, reluctant on telling her what he felt was right.
"but?" izumi questioned, her focus fully on him.
"but i think you should stay away from him." izumi furrowed her eyebrows, surprised at the sudden demand.
"aren't you at least going to explain?" she questioned, setting her chopsticks down. "how can i suddenly stop being friends with someone who's important to me?"
"izumi, please just listen to me, it's for your own safety." izumi sighed, shaking her head.
"i know it's for my safety, but what exactly are you protecting me from? felix isn't the type to suddenly hurt me, if it weren't for him then that party may have gotten more out of hand than it already did." her father sighed, nodding his head.
"i understand that he's helped you through a lot, but please, just listen to me izumi." izumi shook her head.
"i'm sorry, but i can't unless you give me an explanation. this isn't fair and-"
"he'll kill you izumi!" her father exclaimed, cutting her off. izumi blinked, wondering if what she had heard was right.
"k-kill me?" izumi questioned. "w-what are you saying? felix isn't a murderer, right?"
"he may not be a murderer, but he will be the death of you izumi." izumi furrowed her eyebrows, unable to understand what her father was even saying at that moment.
"what do you mean, the death of me? this isn't some thriller novel." izumi joked, trying to lighten the mood and somehow make sense of it.
"it is with your power." izumi's eyes widened, as she turned to her father in surprise.
"how do you know that?" she questioned.
"who do you think you got it from izumi?"
"what?" izumi couldn't believe what she was hearing. she never thought much about who she got the power from, she just wondered why she had it. why did her father never mention it? why didn't he tell her? why didn't he-
"then you knew. you knew and you still let jisung go with her." izumi scoffed, standing up from her seat. "why didn't you stop them? why did you let them die?!" izumi shouted, the anger bubbling over as slammed her hands against the table. "do you know how long i've been blaming myself over it? the only thought i ever had was that i could've stopped her, they could've still been here if i had stopped eomma. i lived everyday thinking that i was a coward who couldn't even save her own mother and brother, everyday it ate me away and you sat here letting me drown."
izumi was breathing heavily, her throat sore from shouting. she had no control over her emotions at that moment, all her thoughts gone out the window at that moment as tears silently escaped her eyes. she was completely overwhelmed by the new information.
"i-i need to go." she mumbled, hurrying out of the house.
"izumi!" her father chased after her, but izumi was already out the door and running off to who knows where. "izumi!" her father shouted, running a hand through his hair. "aish." he cursed, losing sight of which direction she went towards.
izumi continuously wiped her face, slowing down to a walking pace once she was far away enough. she had calmed down a little, her crying was replaced by sniffles as she kept her head down, walking with no destination.
a sigh escaped her lips as she looked up at the sky. it was a crescent moon tonight, with bright stars by its side. izumi chuckled, her eyes dropping to the floor. "aish, how can the sky look so beautiful on a night like this?" she questioned, stopping at a playground.
she groaned, taking a seat on one of the swings. "what is this? some sappy kdrama?" she questioned, talking to herself. she sighed, tilting her head back and closing her eyes. "isn't my knight in shining armour supposed to show up at this point?" she questioned aloud to no one in particular.
"izumi, what are you doing here?"
