One Crazy Night
I slammed the door hard behind me so that it shook the front of our house, and walked irately with a fast pace. Having no plan, I just walked on and pulled my grey hoodie closer around me. I turned a corner then bashed into another figure and stumbled back from the impact as the stranger uttered a grunt of surprise.
"Where are you going in such a rush?" the voice of a young man sounded.
I peered up at him and could only make out very messy dark hair and a rough, boyish looking face. His eyes gleamed in the dim light of our surroundings and he was dressed in a big black coat with lots of zips and pockets down the front.
"None of your business," I snarled at him.
He let out a low chuckle, "Don't spew all that rubbish about not talking to strangers and crap. You look too old for that."
I folded my arms and narrowed my eyes at him, "And how would you know? We don't know each other, and you can barely see me."
"I can see enough," he shrugged, making no attempt to move on.
"Who are you?" I demanded to know.
"My name is Jonah," he answered me. "And you?"
"Madeline," I muttered. "Well Maddy."
"Well Maddy," he repeated with a smirk. "We aren't strangers anymore. So where were you heading?"
"Anywhere," I said defeatedly. "I needed a break from home."
"Ah," he murmured in understanding. "One of those days."
"Yes," I agreed, suddenly fuelled with anger again. "My sister gets all the good attention, being so annoyingly smart, and I on the other hand gets bad grades and ends up arguing with my parents all the time. I just couldn't take it anymore."
He actually bothered listening to me, nodding even.
"Sorry for the rant," I mumbled. "But thanks for listening."
"Nah that's no bother," Jonah gave me a half smile. "I get angry with my family too."
I nodded heatedly. "So where were you going?"
"No where in particular," he answered. "We could stick together if you want. Just for the night."
I thought about his proposal. Jonah was a complete stranger...if Jonah was even his name?! He could easily be lying to me. He must have wanted something from me. I wasn't stupid, maybe it was best to just leave Jonah and go our own separate ways. But then again, he seemed to be honestly friendly enough...and besides, there were meaner and rougher people around and having Jonah could provide as some form of protection.
"Maddy," Jonah said in a bored voice. "Did you die standing up or something?"
"No," I replied. "I accept. Let's stick together."
"Glad to hear it," a smile crept onto his youthful face.
"So do you have a plan?" I shoved my hands into my pockets and looked up at him expectantly.
"Actually I was planning on robbing some place, and I would need someone's help," he said casually while working out some dirt from beneath his nails. "Up to play the part?"
"Are you serious?" I gaped at him.
"Dead serious," he said, and he looked it.
"I'm in," I said without a second thought.
The thought already had adrenaline coursing through my veins, and my heart rate picking up in wild excitement.
"Really?" he widened his eyes. "Great!"
