"Hey, mom." I smiled to myself and sat up in bed. I peered over at the closed bathroom door where Elijah was taking a shower.

"Hey, sweetie! I've been meaning to call you but your sister said she already did so I didn't worry too much."

"She didn't call me." I rolled my eyes. "You always believe her when she says she did."

She gasped like a mother, dramatically. "What? She didn't?"

"Ah! I'll call her right now. Oh goodness."

"She doesn't have school today. Shouldn't she be at home?"

"She told me she'd call you once she got down there." I could imagine the worry written on her face.

"Wait- she's here? Like here where I am and not at home?"

"Yes, she said she wanted to visit you for her birthday."

"It's not her birthday."

"Oh hush, it's an early present. I'll give her a call."

"It's all right, mom," I got out of bed and looked around for my clothes. "I'll call her and see where she is."

"Okay, honey. Let me know what she says right away."

"Okay, love you." After she hung up I sighed and clicked my sister's phone number. It rang several times before going to voicemail. I called her another five times before it was answered.

"What?" She snapped.

"Where are you, you little twerp? Do you know how worried mom is?"

She was silent for a moment. "Mom knows I'm here!"

"Uh huh." I shrugged off the clothes Elijah gave me and put my clothes back on. "Where are you?"

"I'm busy." I sat back down on the bed and sighed again.

"I'm not in the mood for your attitude. Where are you?"

"I'm at a friends."

I resisted a snort. "You better tell me where you are in the next ten seconds or I'm going to let mom know you're staying with a guy."

She gasped. "How'd you know?"

"I didn't. Where are you?"

"Just let me be, Maya! I never get to go out at home. It's so boring."

"When you're an adult and move out you can do whatever you please. But for now you're a 15 year old young girl who I'm sure is staying with someone who's over 18." I slipped my shoes on. "I can call the police if you'd rather me do that."
