I watched Elle run back and forth threw the sprinkler that was set up in the back yard when my mom walked out with a book that had multiple pages scribbled on. She had her phone up to her ear and was speaking with someone.
"Okay and your name?" She said as she wrote something down. "Alright thank you."
She handed me the book and I saw a bunch of names written on it.
"So far we have close to a hundred people RSVPed for the wedding." She said excitedly.
I looked at the list of names and spotted a few that stood out.
Group: Matthews Family
Name: Ema Matthews
"You haven't gotten a call from an Auston Matthews for an RSVP?" I asked my mom curiously.
She shook her head. I nodded and frowned. I handed the book back to her and stood up.
"We have to go try on your dress tomorrow so don't make any plans. Then we have to go get your father fitted for his tuxedo. Have you figured out who your bride and groom court is going to be?" She said.
I nodded. "I have an idea. I'm not sure about Alec, I'll ask him when he gets back from Denmark."
My mom sighed. "Well lets go get ready to taste cakes. We also have to talk to the caterer. Unless you want to wait for Alex."
I scoffed. "It's Alec Mom. Alec. And he told me to pick what I wanted for the cake."
I yelled for Elle and handed her a towel to wrap around her. I picked her up and brought her upstairs to change her into some dry clothes. I went back downstairs.
"I'm ready." I said to my mom.
She nodded and we headed to a fancy wedding bakery. We walked inside and were greeted by a couple behind the counter.
"Hello. I'm Ginger and this is my husband Lee. Welcome to our bakery." She said warmly.
I smiled and went to say hello before my mom interrupted. "We made reservations to taste cakes. Reservations under Valentine."
The lady nodded and stood up to lead us towards the back of the store. There was about ten different slices of cakes laid out.
"Usually the bride and groom come to taste cakes, but your mother told me that he left the cake up to you." Ginger said.
"I nodded that is correct. Just me and my daughter today." She smiled at my response and picked up a fork from the first plate and handed it to me.
"This is just an original ultimate chocolate cake recipe. Very creamy and it's layered with dark chocolate ganache in between each layer." She said.
I put the fork down and looked at the next cake. "This cake is a strawberry cake with fresh strawberries baked into the batter. The batter was made with fresh strawberries and mixed with strawberry juice."
She explained the cake and I took another piece of it and gave some to Elle. She smiled and I looked at the lady.
"I think we're sold on this one." I told the lady and she smiled. She led us to the counter when my moms phone started to ring. I grabbed it from her and let her pay for the cake.
I walked outside and answered the call. "Hello?"
"Hi, I'd like to RSVP for the wedding. If you could just add my name to my family's group."
My breath hitched. "Auston?"
He stopped talking before speaking up. "Brynn? You're taking the RSVPs?"
"No my mom is but she is busy at the moment." I said back.
"Well just add me to my parents group." He said back.
"You're actually going to come?" I asked.
He sighed. "I'm thinking about it. I'm not sure yet."
"Id really want you to be there Auston. It would mean a lot to me." I said back quietly.
"I'm sure it would. I've gotta go Brynn." He said quickly before hanging up.
I sighed and gave the phone to my mom who had wrapped up in the bakery. "Who was it?"
"Just someone wanting to RSVP. I'll add their name when we get back to the house." I told her.
She nodded at me. "Okay, time for the caterer."
