Duffy should have anticipated that it wasn't going to be as simple as walking up to the god and demanding the Tesseract being safely returned. She thought that the team was already assembled and that they were going to jump directly into it, only she was wrong. The members of the "Avengers Initiative" as Phil referred to it to were spread out all around the world at the time of it all happening. Not to mention, one of their agents had been compromised and was now under the control of the god, called Loki. His name was Clint Barton and apparently, at the same time that the Tesseract was taken, Loki decided that the agent would be of use to him.
"It says here that he's deaf," Duncan had pointed out as the two of them had been looking over the files of the new "teammates," as he came upon Clint's file, "how does he manage to be an agent with hearing loss?"
"Trust me," Phil began," Barton doesn't need hearing for what he is capable of and he knows how to manage himself through lip reading and sign."
Duffy, who had only been partially listening, caught on to the tail end of the conversation. "Does Loki know how to sign?" she asked, leaving the vehicle to fall silent for a few moments.
Apparently, it was not something anyone had given much thought to, but Duffy had to wonder if Clint didn't fully disclose the matter of his lack of hearing to the God, that there would be some obvious frustrations whenever Loki placed a command. With lip reading, if he was not facing Clint at the time, it would be pointless to speak and if Loki didn't know sign language, Duffy had a difficult time picturing him taking the time to write the instructions down for Clint to carry out the plans while his mind was affected.
"It's only about eighty percent hearing loss," Phil added finally, " he also wears hearing aids, if he remembers to put them in. Although sometimes, I think he neglects putting them in on purpose. Do either one of you sign? You seem to hold a lot of interest in this topic."
"We learn at our school," Duffy informed him, " it's one of the language electives offered."
Phil definitely appeared confused for a second or two as he stared back and forth between the witch and wizard. His eyes travelled down to the wands in their hands, but quickly looked back up, remembering what Duffy had informed him earlier about challenging them to a duel with just a single look.
"Is magic capable of healing?" he asked them curiously, thinking that magic would have some medical advances over what they were capable of.
"Yes," Duffy answered, " we have plenty of healing spells and potions for practically every occassion. But some things cannot be healed within our means. Injuries caused by dark magic-"
"Lycanthropy," Duncan added, leaving the two to watch as Phil's eyes widened drastically within seconds.
"Lycanthropy?" he repeated. "As in werewolves? Is that what you're trying to tell me? Your world has werewolves?"
