CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
( this world inverted, part i )

okay quick author note before y'all start reading so there's no confusion. but this chapter takes place in an alternate dimension.

With the tall green trees surrounding the park and the chatters of numerous people on her left and right, a sense of longing began to find its way to Clary's heart. She missed this. Casual conversations with a cup of coffee, meeting up with friends, talk ahout a cute boy she recently met, she missed the normal life. And as she was walking aimlrssly around the park, Clary took out her phone, completely forgetting that this wasn't her phone until she saw the unfamiliar lockscreen.

The lockscreen was a picture of her and her friends, which seemed to be taken recently as none of them looked any older than the ones from her own dimension.

They were all standing in front of a van, each holding up their own different colored drinks. She herself was situated at the center, smiling brightly at the camera. Jace, however, was inside the van. He doesn't look like a demon-killing-warrior like the one from her universe considering he was wearing a pink apron with a goofy smile on his face. Isabelle, who had her hair up in ponytail and wearing glasses was holding hands with Simon, who was very much alive and not as pale as she remembered.

Then right next to them were Jax and Alec. The latter looking away from the camera at the very last second as he bent down to kiss Jax's cheek. And judging by the red that was tainting his cheeks, Jax was obviously caught of guard by the kiss. But his lips still curved up into a shy grin.

Unconsicously, a smile began to form on Clary's lips when she saw how happy all them looked. But her smile dropped as she remembered that things weren't going as smoothly on her universe. She was broken away from her thoughts when she felt someone dragging her away. "Simon?" she asked to herself, glad to finally see a familiar face.

"I know that look. Caffeine deprivation. And when you get that look, I either have to caffeinate you immediately or accept full responsibilty for you killing someone," he said before leading her towards the same van she saw on her lockscreen. He gave her one last smile before leaving her to go buy coffee for the both of them. She walked over to the table where Alec and Isabelle were already there, waiting for her.

Isabelle was busy typing away on her phone while Alec was looking around the park, slumping back down on his seat with a sigh when he didn't find whatever it is he was looking for. She looked at her group of friend, realizing that someone was missing. "Hey, uh, where's Jax?"

"He texted me seven minutes ago saying that he's on his way," Alec rolled his eyes and tapped his fingers on the desk impatiently. "Don't know what's taking him so long."
