I was in my room lying in my bed talking to Phillip on the phone hours after Rashad left. Even though we originally agreed to stop doing the dinner visits, we decided it was best to keep it up for awhile because the girls were taking the news so hard. Kiana was more feeding off of Aylen's energy. We discussed doing it at least until Rashad moved into his new place. He had a few townhouses that he was scheduled to look at that week. Once he moved into one of them then we would trade sharing the girls every other week on a more concrete schedule so we could truly begin to live our separate lives.

That night, Rashad acted weird with me and focused all of his attention on the girls. It was as if he was blaming this entire situation on me. It had been like that the past few days ever since we talked to the girls days before.

"We have to celebrate," Phillip broke into my thoughts. After interviewing for the graphic designer position, I had just found out that I got the job earlier that day. I hadn't even told Rashad about it yet but I found myself sharing the news with Phillip.

"What do you have in mind?" I asked curling my toes underneath me. I couldn't stop smiling, it always felt good talking to him.

"Let me take care of it," he said. "Just give me a night that you can be free so I can make plans."

"I can do that," I nodded. "And I have another surprise for you," I said.

"Is that right?" I heard his voice drop.

"Mhm," I teased. "I've decided to go to Destin with you for your birthday," I told him biting my lip as I waited on his response.

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah, I need the break and my mom offered to keep the girls for me."

"That's what I'm talking about. I'll book everything tonight and I'll send you the details," he said.

"I'm so ready to lay out on the beach..." I sighed. My emotions had been all over the place, I needed this mental break.

"And I can't wait to see you laying on the beach," his tone was suggestive.

"You better be go-" I was cut off by a sudden knock at the door. "What the-" I said getting up from the bed and walking down the hall. I stopped in front of the girl's room to make sure that they were both okay first, then I closed their door and continued towards the front door.

"What is it?" Phillip asked.

"Somebody's knocking at my door," I whispered because I wasn't sure who it was.

"Stay on the phone with me while you go check," he said.

I got to the door and looked through the peephole and was surprised to see Rashad standing at the door with his hands in his pockets.
