CHAPTER 15
Three days went by in a blur.
Time passed but Astrid was still in a state of shock. That night with the elders, she wasn’t able to say another word after they told her she was to marry Quil and become their Eina. Quil never said a word either. He just looked at her expectantly as though waiting for her answer—one she couldn’t give for it was as if a danore got hold of her tongue.
She had three days to ponder about how her life was going to take a one hundred eighty degree turn. She wanted to talk to Quil but he was never there. She went to him after speaking with the Elders but he just told her that he was going somewhere. And for three days, he didn’t return.
Today is their wedding day and still no Quil.
Was marrying her so distasteful that he ran off?
“It’s just nerves, child. Eion will be here to marry you in time,” Elder Altarys told Astrid as she fussed over Astrid’s hair.
“No one even asked if he wanted this. What if he doesn’t?”
“He does. His regard for you is seen every time he looks at you. The question now is if this is what you want?” Elder Altarys asked softly. Astrid frowned. Was this really what she wanted? But then again, she had three days to voice her objections. But she didn’t. Instead, she just let Quil’s people prepare for the wedding.
They all looked so excited for the event that she didn’t have the heart to stop them. Also, they believed she was the one that the prophecy spoke about and her presence here gave them hope.
For three days, Astrid existed in a half-trance. She thought about the world she left behind and the new world she was about to fully embrace. Was this really the right choice? Something inside her told her that clearly, this was what is meant to be. A part of her believed in the prophecy. A part of her welcomed the change and wanted to become a part of this new world.
She didn’t really have anything to go back to in Earth. Well, she had her studies. But she didn’t really have any friends. Her parents were not the caring type. They were more of the kind who gave every material thing there is but never love and affection.
Here, in Quil’s world, is where Astrid found that sense of belongingness that she craved. This is where she found people who truly cared for her. She wasn’t their flesh and blood yet they cared for her wellbeing more than her parents ever did.
Also, in this world, there was Quil.
He was the only man who ever made her heart race. Whenever she looked at him, she became lost in his blue eyes. They were strangers but he took her under his wing. He taught her how to survive in this harsh world and brought her back to his people.
The only thing they asked of her was to try and study with the elders so they can unlock this great magic inside of her. That magic was said to be the key that will call forth the blood moon. The same magic was also prophesized to be the one that will help them win back Ayre.
Astrid wasn’t sure if such magic existed within her. But for Quil and his people, she was willing to try.
She could study with the elders. She could become Quil’s queen and do everything she could to rule by his side. There was only one reservation hindering her from jumping into this fully... Quil.
Astrid wished she could at least talk to him and ask him about this upcoming wedding. How did he feel about it? Did he have a lover who will be left behind? What did he expect of her? Was this a marriage to be in name only or were they truly going to be husband and wife?
