CHAPTER TWENTY ONE
( rise up, part i )

Isabelle Lightwood never liked the kind of attention she got.

Though she was confident whenever she strut around in her short skirts and a much too revealing tops, she didn't miss the lust in men's eyes when she walked by nor did she not hear the hurtful words girls flung behind her back. Honestly, she couldn't care less about what people say. She just wished they'd actually gotten to know her before they start talking trash.

Because Isabelle Lightwood is so much more than a pretty face and stunning curves.

"You almost done?" Isabelle said impatiently as she walked inside the lab, where Magnus was using his magic to investigate the dead body.

"Patience is a virtue, my dear," Magnus' magic flowed through both of his hands and into the Forsaken's chest.

"Come on. I want to get my hands on that thing," she said, putting on her gloves and rubbed them together in anticipation.

"Speaking of which, how are Alexander and Jackson? I was hoping I might hear from them," the warlock asked casually.

"Putrefaction. It's decomposing," Isabelle didn't answer his question and inspected the dead Forsaken instead.

"It's just so hard to tell if Alexander is even interested. I mean, I can't fathom why he wouldn't be. Have you seen that hunk of a werewolf?" Magnus exclaimed. "He may be cursed but I sure as hell feel blessed whenever I laid my eyes on him. If Alec doesn't make a move anytime soon, I might just snatch him up for myself."

"I'm not sure if you've noticed, but my brother isn't exactly warm and fuzzy," Isabelle pointed out.

"Hmm, I suppose," Magnus sighed, wishing that they would just get together already. "With Clary's arrival-"

"Valentine's return," Isabelle continued on.

"Mhm, Running the Institute. the envoy from Clave whom I heard is very impressive," Magnus listed them one by one.

"What else?" Magnus wondered aloud then scoffed as the next thing came to mind. "Oh, babysitting Jace."

"And dealing with our parents who are trying to find him a wife," Isabelle added bitterly.

Magnus frowned, his face turning serious. "How did Jackson respond to the news?"

"He doesn't know yet," Isabelle sighed. "But he will sooner or later. I mean, I understand that my parents want to restore the Lightwood name. Technically it is our fault after all, but it's just not fair to punish Alec like this."
