I woke up in a strange room, and I was a bit confused until I remembered I was in Luke's childhood bedroom. But I was in here alone.
With a big yawn, I stretched out my arms and got out of the bed, grabbing my toiletries bag and heading down the hall to get ready for the day.
I quickly got changed and brushed my hair and teeth, before taking my bag back to Luke's room and I almost had a heart attack when I saw him sitting on the edge of the bed, tying up his shoelaces.
"Good morning" I say, walking over to me and he looks up at me quickly, as I I startled him. "Didn't mean to scare you"
"It's fine" He says shakily, struggling to do up his laces so I grab his hands and pull them away, doing up his shoe for him. "Thanks"
"What's up?" I ask him, putting my hands on my knees while I kneel before him and he looks down at me, brushing a strand of hair out of my eyes.
"Jack is coming over. He was the worst when I left" Luke sighs, running a hand through his hair, and judging by the flatness of it, I can tell it's definitely not the first time he's done so today.
"Do you wanna go for a walk?" I ask, linking our fingers together and he nods.
"Yes, please. God, you're good to me" He breathes, pulling me into his body and tightening his arms around me and I hug him back.
"Only because you deserve it" I say, kissing his lips softly before standing to my feet and pulling Luke up with me, and we walk down the stairs together.
"Shit" Luke says, suddenly stopping, and I jerk back slightly from the abrupt movement. "That's Jack's voice"
"Calm down. It's okay" I whisper to him and I squeeze his hand. He nods and I continue walking. We enter the kitchen and 4 heads snap over to us.
"Good morning, you two" Liz smiles at us and a tall boy, who I assume is Jack, stares at Luke intently. I feel Luke's hand start to sweat in mine under his brothers intense gaze but I don't pull away.
"Morning" I smile, squeezing Luke's hand to bring him back to earth and he shakes his head slightly, gulping.
"Morning" He says, his voice breaking slightly and he looks at the ground.
"Hello, Luke" Jack says awkwardly.
"Hey" Luke says, still staring at the wooden floorboards.
"How've you been?" Jack asks.
"Uh, good, you?"
"Yeah, me too"
"How's Celeste?" Luke asks and I am almost positive Luke told me that she is Jack's partner.
"She's great" Jack replies, scratching the back of his neck. The room goes quiet after that, and the silence soon becomes awkward. "Oh, God. Come here" Jack sighs after about a minute, and Luke drops my hand and hugs his brother, burying his head in the older boy's shoulder.
I am so glad Luke has finally resolved all of his problems he had had with his family, and it makes my heart ache, because I just wish I had his strength.
"This is Katie, my girlfriend" Luke says as they pull away, and he smiles at me gratefully. Jack nods at me with a smile and I return it.
"I was thinking we could go out to lunch later?" Liz suggests and everyone agrees, clearing out to get ready. Soon, Luke and I are the only ones in the room and he walks over to me, grabbing my hands and holding them out to our sides, as he leans his head in and brushes his nose against mine, and I giggle.
