We had heard Zayn screaming for us to go and for some reason we didn't think twice. We had driven away, straight back to our home town.
Once we arrived, we drove around aimlessly until Louis discovered his senses and memory and gave us directions to his father's old warehouse. We dropped the hybrids and van in there, leaving them in the care of Harry and Louis which in all honesty, probably wasn't the best idea.
We headed into town in the van and wandered around for a bit.
The first thing we did, was go straight into Sainsbury’s and load the baskets with lots of durable food – albeit unhealthy. We got some canned fruit as well and some simple carbohydrates that didn’t have to be cooked in any way.
By the time we arrived at the cashier, we were fifty pounds down in pure junk food and tinned peaches. The cashier gave us a weird look. I have no idea what this would’ve looked like but I thanked the Lord above that we still had the money to purchase it all.
We left the shop, arms straining under the swinging bags of food.
“I can’t believe we actually got all of this, I’m so glad we had the money!” I said, grinning. Niall looked away, seeming a little uncertain.
“Niall.” I said. “Niall.” I repeated. He glanced up at me meekly. “What did you do?”
“Well, the money might not be all entirely ours...” he admitted, glancing sheepishly at the ground.
“You didn’t stea-” I began but he cut me off, horrified.
“No, no of course not! It was, just in the van...” I let out a heavy sigh of relief, placing a shopping bag laden hand on my heart.
“Oh thank the Lord!”
Niall laughed loudly and we continued on our way. We walked in comfortable chatter, simply just enjoying the other’s company. Suddenly the dreary grey clouds parted above Niall’s head and a soft golden glow began to peer through.
“Hey, Niall look! The sun’s out,” I said, a small smile creeping onto my lips. Niall looked up and grinned.
“We must be on the right path,” he said as we arrived at the warehouse. My smile broke out into a grin as we entered.
“Who wants food?” I said excitedly as we stepped into the room. The hybrids glanced up and squealed eagerly.
I dropped the bag as soon as I saw the position. Harry and Louis had gotten the hybrids all playing duck, duck goose... Although with less rules.
They were charging around the warehouse, screaming and giggling whilst Harry and Louis jogged around, tickling some, encouraging others and catching some who were toppling dangerously.
Niall simply laughed and joined in. I rolled my eyes but succummed to childishness.
We fed them each, loving every second of how their eyes widened and lips spread into a smile as they tasted real food for the first time.
All of this had almost taken the others off my mind. But not completely. They still haunted my thoughts, lingering behind my brain and I knew I couldn’t live with this is something happened to any of them. I sighed, leaning back against the wall, watching the hybrids play with a new happiness that had once been drained from their innocent souls.
Soon enough Niall came to sit by me.
“Why so down?” he asked me. I replied I wasn’t, but when his eyebrows soared, I was so scared they were going to spill off the top of his head I told him.
“I’m worried about the others.” Niall smiled softly.
“This is Zerrie we’re talking about. They’re pretty much indestructible.”
“Oh yeah,” I said, my eyebrows raising this time.
“Mate, first of all, they are the first ever human-hybrid couple that ever was, or that I know of, they both got captured, separated, dressed up as guards to not only reunite each other, but free at least thirty more other people and hybrids. They’ve survived more than James Bond together!”
I laughed listening to each statement. A strong sense of security washed over me as I realised all of this. They were indestructible. But that didn’t shake the shivers entirely.
“They still mortal though.”
“Or are they?”
“What?!” I laughed, turning to face Niall who seemed completely serious.
“Well, we never asked! Hybrids could be immortal...” I only laughed harder at this, Niall soon joining.
Maybe things were going to be okay. At least, as long as I had Niall.
After I had erotically thanked the girl and hugged Perrie to death, we hopped into the van, arranging the hybrids comfortable with Ed and driving off.
We were speeding down the highway quickly. I barely knew the way but at least we would be home. Or close to it at the very least. I could see the tips of our home town rising steadily over the tops of the trees.
Perrie leaned her head on my shoulders, watching hte approaching horizon with sleep filled eyes.
"I missed you," she mumbled.
"I missed you too," I replied, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead and focused on the road once more.
