Yes, despite the air of opulence he exudes, Emilio Tantoco is a tight-fisted and cunning businessman and sometimes a cold-hearted father.
Nyxa's thoughts were interrupted when they suddenly made a right turn. She arched her brow at the drive-thru queue that was in front of them but said nothing.
Talagang kakain s'ya sa McDo?
"Welcome to McDonalds, may I take your order please?" the small speaker sounded when it was finally their turn.
"Hi. We'll have the Ultimate Burger McShare. For the drinks we'll have two Coke floats and..."
He turned to look at her. "Will you be getting the Coke float or do you prefer to have the orange juice or maybe a soda?"
Nyxa blinked in confusion at his question.
"Nyxa," he said. "Quickly. Mahaba pa ang pila sa likod."
"I'll have a Coke float, too," she replied.
Mom is going to throw a fit if she finds out. Her mother raised her and her brother on everything that's organic and the only junk food they were allowed to occasionally indulge in was home-cooked fried chicken.
"Miss, make that three Coke floats—"
"I want fried chicken," she blurted out. "Two-piece, thigh part."
"And two orders of two-piece friend chicken. Thigh part," he said without missing a beat.
"Okay po, is there anything else?"
He quirked a questioning brow at her. "Ano pa?"
"Okay na ako."
"Okay na raw, Miss," he said.
"Okay, next window na lang po for the payment."
They drove to the cashier and he pulled his wallet out from his back pocket then carefully chose a thousand-peso bill before handing it to the woman.
"Thank you," he said after he received his change.
Driving-thru at a fast food wasn't what Nyxa had in mind. She had to admit that her thoughts were far too heinous from what was actually happening.
Would anyone believe me if I tell them that I was kidnapped and fed burger, fries, and a Coke float?
Out of nowhere a phone rang and she realized that she did not have her phone with her.
"Yes...?" her companion answered his phone. "I'm somewhere else...okay, ako ang tatawag. Salamat."
"You speak Tagalog with an accent," Nyxa couldn't help but verbalize her observation after his call ended. "It's barely noticeable but it's there. What's your full name again?"
"You weren't listening earlier?"
"Should I have listened when you were trying to kidnap me?"
"We both know that you would have willingly gone with me, Nyxa. And no, I did not kidnap you, I won you fair and square," he said.
"And that's supposed to make me feel better?"
"I'm just laying down the facts. It's Leiandros. Leiandros Altair Latsis Carbonel."
"My family knows the Carbonels and—"
"And I wasn't mentioned anywhere in their illustrious family's history?" he asked with a soft laugh. "Yes, I am a Carbonel bastard. Is there a book I could perhaps read about the history of The Great Carbonels?" he sarcastically added.
