Chapter 4-No Place Like Home

"Here," Baldy said while throwing me another bag of blood after we entered one of the interrogation rooms. This room had a table and a chair. This time there was a third man in the room.

I drank this one slower than the other bag. I relished every gulp as as the sweet taste slid down my throat.

"We will take this time to answer any questions you have."

I paused a minute. "I don't think I have any."

Baldy arched an eyebrow at me. "Are you sure about that?"

"Actually I do have one. What is your name?"

He crossed his arms over his chest, and then he pressed his lips in a tight line. "People around here call me Big George, but you are going to call me Detective Sanford."

I laughed which made Baldy. . .or rather George scowl at me.

George uncrossed his arms, and he placed his hands on the desk and leaned forward towards me. "Is there something funny about my name?"

"I was just thinking about curious George. You know, the monkey? He is all friendly and hairy, and you . . . well you are just a bald asshole."

George opened his mouth to say something, but he was interrupted by loud laughter. I turned to look at the guard who was laughing. The guy was a scrawny-looking. He had dirty blond hair, and he also had a small beard and mustache. He was probably the only friendly face I had seen.

The bearded man wiped tears from his eyes before he wheezed with laughter, "Bald asshole."

That caused laughter to bubble up from me again. I hadn't really thought that one through before I said it. George scowled at both of us.

"Enough," George bellowed loud enough to make me to flinch.

I stopped laughing, but the other guy ignored George. He came closer to me, and then he held offered me his hand. I shook his hand.

"My name is Adam Robb. It is nice to have a girl on the team for once. Big George is pretty sexist," the guy said with a smile, exposing a fang.

I smiled back at him. Working here might not be as bad as I thought. At least their were some friendly people around here.

Adam turned to George, "I would love to act as her sire if you would let me."

"No, it has already been taken care of," George growled.

My heart dropped. George certainly wouldn't be giving me a good "sire." I probably shouldn't have made that earlier comment about him.

"Why do I have to have a sire?"

"Someone needs to keep you in line. Plus a sire is suppose to help you learn about the our society and laws, something of which you seem to be completely clueless about."

"I can take care of myself," I said.

George either just choose to ignore me, or he didn't hear me.

"Besides it will be good for Brandon. He has never trained a vampire before."

At the mention of George's accomplice, I froze. Brandon was way worse than George!

"I think I would be more comfortable with someone else," I blurted.

George's gaze hardened at me. "You don't get a say in this."
