UNITED UNDER OUR INDIFFERENCE

*

january. 2010

Finn groaned and rolled over on the couch. He slowly stood up and then stretched his arms. With a yawn, he began to walk towards the front door of his condo.

It'd been exactly three days since the boy moved away from home. Since he had a decent bit of money, he was able to rent a condominium that was just five minutes away from his family. Moving out was the hardest thing he'd ever done, but he knew it was for the best. His parents were shocked and saddened when he told them the news. Natalia on the other hand was very relieved.

Finn grabbed the shiny silver door knob and opened the door. He saw his older sister standing outside. Her face was absolutely expresionless. She quickly walked past Finn and headed into the house.

"We need to talk." She stated rather bluntly. The curly haired boy exhaled and shut the door. He approached his sister.

"What do y-"

"You're a drug dealer." She voiced, cutting him off. Finn gasped and put a hand on his face.

All of a sudden, the boy started to laugh. "What are you talking about? Me? A drug dealer? My uncle is in the D.E.A and I mean... Why do you think that?" He responded in a shocked tone.

Tears started to form in the young woman's eyes. She rubbed her mouth with her hand and then sniffled.

"How else would you make so much money? It would explain your mysterious disappearence, that girl visiting you, you admitting to using weed, dropping out of school. It would explain everything, Finn."

Finn had obviously stopped laughing. There was no point in trying to deny it. She'd caught him and it was time to own up to everything.

"It's methamphetamine." He muttered. Natalia finally stopped holding back her tears. Small water droplets cascaded down her face as she cried her eyes out. Her brother was a criminal. She didn't know what else to do. The only thing she could do was cry.

"I'm not a dealer, I just make the product. You have to hear me out, Natalia. I'm doing this for us, for the family. I'm doing this so I can pay for dad's medical treatments." He tried to explain, hoping that would calm her down.

"I wish you would've gotten leukemia instead of dad." She whispered through her tears. That boy was ripping her apart inside. After everything they'd been through together, it was like a shot to the heart.

"I'm not going to turn you into the police. As long as you pay for dad's treatments." She paused and then realized something.  "How will you even give the money to him?"

Finn pursed his lips. "I have a plan."

Finn sat alone at a small booth. He was at Dom's Icecream Parlour again, hoping that he'd be able to confirm his theory. The idea just made sense.

The boy waited, and waited, and waited. He was bored to pieces after simply sitting there for over an hour. Luckily for him, he eventually saw a familier face begin to approach him. Finn sat up a bit and placed his hands on the top of the table.
