Being back in Italy after all these years reminds me on that summer. I know I should go stop by and say hi, but something in me just can't face Elio. I miss him like crazy but I just can't face him. "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" My daughter Ellie yelled running up to me. I let out a small laugh as I picked her up and hugged her.
"Hey sunshine! Ready for your first play date?" I smiled kissing her on the cheek.
"YES!!! You finally get to meet Annabelle! Her dad is very nice too." I set her down and grab her hand as we walk to our small apartment to get her things for he lake.
"I'm glad her dad is a nice man. Now let's go get you changed." She let out a small laugh as we continued to walk.
Ellie pulled me a long as we were walking to the river. She was very excited. I decided to leave a little early so I can do some reading and Ellie can play for a while.

After an hour or so a little girl comes running by. She laughs as she reaches Ellie. I can only assume it is Annabelle. As I look at her she reminds me of Elio. The way her eyes light up when she laughs, even the way her eye wrinkles when she smiles.  Maybe I should go see him? "Annabelle, next time don't run off like that." That voice...I can recognize it from any where.

I watched as my daughter gathered her things. She was very excited to go swimming with her friend from school today. It was finally summer and the smile on her face was what kept me going. With every summer that passes, the less hope I have that Oliver will come back to visit. It has been years since that summer and only one phone call from him. I'm starting to give up hope. "Papa! I'm ready!" Annabelle came running into our shared room.
"Ok Darling, go tell Nonna and and Nonno goodbye." I smiled as she ran into the study.
We were walking down to the river when Annabelle just took off. "Annabelle! Annabelle get back here!" I ran after her hoping to catch up to her. I here laughter as I come closer to the river. "Annabelle, next time don't run off like that." I let out a sigh of reliefs. "Sorry Papa." She runs over and gives me a hug. I kiss her head as Ellie ran up to us. I crouched down so could talk to her. "Hello Ellie! It very nice to see you again!" She let out a laugh.
"It's very nice to see you too! Come one Annabelle!" She said grabbing her hand and running to the water. I stood up brushing myself off. I turned around to see the first and last person I wanted to see.
